I have finally lost all respect for Lee Iaccoca. A closed cell foam is not going to provide the benefits of the pneumatic tire needed on bicycles. This Amerityre myght be occay for wheelbarrows at construction sites and other special purpose applications. It won't be more than a novelty alternative for real tires and tubes.
Does the sample comprise a complete tyre, or just a section?

Kudos to Keith for actually trying the tire, instead of just slamming unseen it on theoretical grounds. Let us know how it works out!
In theory, practice and theory are the same; in practice, they often differ!

Thanks for the experiment, Keith.
Sounds like they worked out for you. That's all that matters.

I came back from work one day and found that wife had responded to my complaints about flats by having a lbs install foam tires. No problem for a month until a spoke broke. I could not get the tire off to fix the spoke. Back to the shop, tire off$, fix spoke$, tire on$. Then 3 weeks to the next broken spoke, then two weeks, Then 5 broken spokes on one memorable ride. I released the brakes, made it home ALA Fred Flintstone, CUT the tires off, put my pneumatic tires back on and haven't gone back. Well, with the exception of solid iron and aluminun wheels used on rail bikes in underground mines.

That is what I was afraid of....if I would get the tires on how easy would it be to take off to fix a spoke. The LBS would probably charge me MORE to get it fixed vs. a standard bike tire. I will be sticking with the "standard" tires.

I agree that their samples are free! I have a set and would like to mail them to someone since I don't need them any longer. I believe in recycling (reusing). So I will gladly send my Amerityre sample (set of three tire styles) to anyone for FREE. Just send me a Privage Message with your address!
Thanks!

I'll quickly relate my experience with airless tyres. I bought one because I had been suffering flats a lot, and my tyre was pretty worn. I was short of cash, and the LBS suggested I try one (this was 10 years ago). I bought one, and tried to put it on my Ernie Clements (I know, I know, sacrilege). It took me forEVER plus to get it on, and of course, that makes sense. After all, with a clincher, the inflation of the tube holds it on the rim, and they can STILL be pretty tough to fit. This thing has to stay on using the same tension it applies when you fit it......
Anyway, it took about 1h 30, but I succeeded, and took it for a run round the block. Seemed fine. Next day, I take it on my commute (yes, I commuted year round, rain or shine, on an Ernie Clements....). Not too bad until I went down the hill leaving town. This is a pretty steep fast descent, couple of bends, traffic, and a really bad road , lots of bumps and potholes. This was where it really got exciting. My ass got battered, in no uncertain terms, and what was worse, I was half out of control, the back of the bike was leaping all over the road, and it was scary. I had to use this tyre for some months (no money), and it really only got worse, and fairly quickly took my wheel out of true as well. They suck, don't buy them.
