Getting closer to 5 days a week

I've been working up to doing my 18 mile (with gravel and hills) commute all 5 working days. I think I was a bit optimistic about how long it would take me to get there.

Last week I did my first 4 days of commuting. Monday, Tuesday then Thursday, Friday. Things went pretty well through Friday morning's commute, but by the time I was heading home on Friday, I could tell I had not yet recovered from the morning. That ride home was SLOW. I'm going to try the same 4 days this week and see how it goes. Next change will be to try 3 consecutive days before I take a day off.

Best time so far is 1 hour 21 minutes some odd seconds. As long as I beat 1 1/2 hours, I figure I'm doing OK. Some days (like last Friday afternoon), it takes longer.

Here's a graph of the commute

The GPS says the total clime/drop is around 2000'/2000'. The big hill is a bit over 500' on the way to work, closer to 600' on the way home.

That's also a glitch (the speed sensor was starting to fail). I only hit a bit over 40.

These comments are making me feel better about how long it is taking me to get to 5 days a week. It's a fun ride, but it does take a bit out of me.

I take 1h05min. to 1h15min. (depending mostly on wind direction) to go 19 miles on an almost perfectly flat ride, 4 days a week ( I only work 4 days) so, to me, you do pretty well!

I am 5 days a week. Been that way the whole year. Some weeks, the wife might carry me to work in the truck, but they are few. All my bikes are road bikes. I usually ride different ones. Funny, thing, I haven't been on a motorcycle this year!!

At some point you'll begin to feel comfortable going every day. You seem to be in a phase of trying to plot out recovery and rest. Eventually this will all become automatic and you won't even think about it.

Congrats on doing this. Hope you have fun! That's the real point of it.
