Commuter tires for a 29er
Any recommendations for street tires on a 29er? I just have the stock 29x2.0 Specialized Fast Track tires on my Hardrock 29er. The tread isn't extremely aggressive but it still feels like a lot to overcome if I'm riding like I need to get somewhere.

Schwalbe makes their big apple in a 29er size , pretty slick but still fat.
of course being a 700c/622 rim, you can fit narrower say a 35 wide tire too.. |
I have 26MM tires on a 20MM wide (inner dimension) and they work fine.
25MM is the smallest I'd go. So- multiply your inner rim width by 1.25 and I'd call that the MINIMUM tire size. Don't know if that helps, or you just want smoother fat tires?? |

Schwalbe Marathon is pretty much the std commuter tyre; it works for me. Marathon Plus has better protection at the expense of some speed and the Supreme is speedier and pricier.

Lots of options in the 35-40 mm range. I like the 35mm pararacer tour guard with kevlar protect.

Pretty much any 700c tire will fit. Get a lightweight 35mm tire with flat protection and you will love what it does for your ride. |
If you want to keep the big tire thing, the Specialized Borough rolls nicely and gives a good ride. I think they're 700x45.

I have been using these on my do-everything bike and I love them. http://www.biketiresdirect.com/produ...plus-tire-700c
I have the 700x47...they make a Cross Check look like a monster truck. They should look pretty natural on a Hardrock. |
I like Conti Sport Contact 700x37c and Vittoria Randonneur Hyper 700x38c tires. They are both basically bald and they are both quite fast in addition to being belted and quite impervious to flats.
