Very Sad Day

This morning, a good friend died why enjoying what he loved, cycling. He was hit by a car and did not survive.

Bob (Robert) taught me a lot. We sat at the same table of a restaurant and broke bread while talking about what we loved, cycling.

He will be dearly missed. He shared so much with the cycling community. His love for photography, cycling, guns, and statistics is where he shared is passion and much of it with others.

He will always be remembered and missed.

Please be careful out there everyone.

I am so sorry.

That sucks man. If it's any consolation I'm sure he is happy knowing that others appreciate the knowledge he shared.

From what I can tell from the article it sounds like a woman turned left in front of him. Hopefully this incident will raise awareness for others when they come across a similar situation. Most motorists are looking specifically for cars, motorcycles and especially bicycles are sometimes hidden in plain sight. I've had it happen to me, without incident though. It typically ends with some very close eye contact between the individuals involved and the resposes can vary greatly. Be careful.

Sorry to hear that, it sounds like a great guy was lost.

Sounds like a left hook.

It is sad, but he sounds like someone who lived a pretty interesting life and his death reflected that.

terrapin44 06-28-12 09:42 PM

Very sad, my condolences.

chefisaac 06-28-12 09:44 PM

I wont forget him. I remember the first ride I went on with him early this year. I was terrified because he rides in hilly areas and he helped me a lot during that ride but it was at lunch where we all stopped and I sat next to him. We shared a salad and sandwich and talked cycling all at lunch.

This somewhat hits home, for I live in Chester County, PA and I do pass by that road (in my car) a few times a month. This is a sad sad day.

I know how it feels to lose a close friend this way. Try to take comfort in the fact that he obviously lived a full life and died rather quickly while doing something he loved.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, chef. Very sad story indeed. He was still riding the hills at 80? Wow. Sounds like a great guy.

Always hard to hear something like this and try to make sense of it when there isn't any sense to be made...
