Need front wheel suggestion
Took a spill today (first time in 5 years) and bended the front wheel. I'm on a very tight budget right now so all I can pay for is about $80 or around that. I don't need anything fancy, just tough and serviceable for the time being.
Thank you very much! |
what size wheel? 700, 26 or some of size?
my rear 26" wheel got bent in storage and i got a new one at the LBS for $44 it holds me fine im 340lbs a front wheel should be even cheaper if all you want is just a basic wheel |
700C, sorry...

$80 puts you in the realm of any machine made wheel but you should have someone go over it. What size of tire are you using and what kind of rim did you have?

Damage of the wheel. It's the stock wheel on this bike. It's Alexrims with some unknown hub. You can see that it is bended by looking at the alignment between the front fender and the tire.
Is the damage repairable or it is better just to replace the front wheel? https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1...0/IMG_0432.JPG |
Doesn't look too bad. If the rim isn't dented it should be repairable.

IDK, Not there.. Take it to the Bike Shop and see if they can fix it.

The bike is still ridable. It limped the last mile or 2 back to where I parked. I just have to open up the front brake so the wheel can rotate somewhat freely and I think it's scratching the fender or the brake a little.

Do you have a Performance Bike nearby? This one is $80: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes...81_-1___400934 and another for $15 more: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes...86_-1___400934

Very possibly, just a bit of truing and it would be fine!

New wheel it is. I took the old wheel to my LBS and he said it's ruined because the bend is more than 1/4" on one side.
The replacement wheel is a Weinmann LP18 rim with Shimano HB2200 hub and stainless steel spokes. The mechanic rim taped (using cloth tape), trued, mounted and inflated the new wheel for me and generally provided me with good information. The wheel and all of these services for $72 out the door. It's a decent deal for what I know. I can get a wheel online for maybe a little bit less but I won't get any of these services. Took a ride right after I mounted the wheel and adjusted the brakes and it's very smooth. Just realized I got so excited I haven't even took the price tag off, haha... |
