Pleasant temps this morning
I'm not one to complain about the warm weather. Even triple digit temps are normally easier to deal with than what we'll be experiencing in 5 or 6 months. Still, this morning for the first time in awhile, my thermometer wasn't already in the 70's or 80's when I left for work, the humidity seemed reasonable and there was a fresh breeze out of the North.
Very nice. |
Yes same. Unfortunately it won't stick around

And yes, I prefer the heat and humidity to the refreshing subzero arctic air. I don't necessarily LIKE it, but I prefer it. :-) The logistics are so much easier--shorts, jersey, water. After all the winter miles, I still get a bit nervous every time I head out the door, wondering if clothing choices are right, roads are passable, hypothermia chances in case of a flat tire, feet staying warm, etc., etc. |

It was a nice cool stroll down the greenway this morning, sure beats 90+. I really hate super hot weather. I'd rather have snow than 95.

Good for me too, right at 61 deg.F when I left the house and no humidity (or very little) either. Had a few morning chores so got out on the road a bit later than usual. Had good conversation on the Metro train with another bicycle commuter (who just got a new bike!) and no problems on the ride from the Metro into work.
My best range of temps is mid 50's F to mid 60's F but even in the winter it doesn't get much below 45 F here. Rick / OCRR |
I love the differing of opinions. It sounds like my office. Some want it arctic while others want it sweltering. I much prefer the heat over the cold. I nearly froze my ass off this morning. I am in the same area as Rick and was only wearing shorts and a workout shirt. Usually good enough for the morning. I was cold all the way to work. I hate that!!

Pretty pleasant here too this morning. The ride home was a bit steamy though.

Going through this horrid stretch of 100+ heat index has made me impressed by the hot weather commuters of the south. I'd much rather commute through a few winter days than come to work drenched in sweat every day!

Hot weather and cold weather commuting are different beasts and it's hard to compare them. I really don't mind the sweat, -unless it gets into my eyes.
While I can dress to be more or less comfortable on most winter days, there's a lot more hassle. Studded tires and poor road conditions slow you down. Plus it's dark most of the time. By more or less comfortable I mean that my head could be sweating while my toes are numb, but that averages out to A-OK. ;) On the other hand, in the winter I really don't worry about over exerting myself and my water is always ice cold. In extremely hot weather, having enough water and not pushing too hard become a much bigger deal. It's not really a problem for my commute so much but becomes an issue on longer recreational rides. |
