A friend of mine at work brought me a door frame pull-up bar. I ran some of the arms of it trough my backpack straps them put the backpack on. Rode it 11 miles home. Not comfy but not terrible. I was given a lot of room on the road though because the "arms" on the pull-up bar stuck out pretty far.

A post hole excavator. The handles straddled the head tube and the business end sat on the rack. Wasn't to bad.

As a teenager, I happen to have dropped by a friend's house unexpectedly. They were having a picnic just before vacationing to europe. Less relatives showed up at their picnic than expected. There were tons of leftovers remaining, including several huge watermelons.

Someone asked about what they were going to do with the watermelons. I asked if I could have them. They decided to donate one to me and the other two, to neighbors. I haphazardly placed the watermelon upon my hood and rode about half a mile to my home. I heard some lady say, "Hey! Look at that boy with that huge watermelon, on a bike!".

It was tempting, but the TP situation at my apartment was more critical than the beer one at that moment.

Now I have a bike with both a back AND front rack, so I will never have to make such a wrenching decision again. I totally know how the lady in Sophie's Choice felt now.

You're to the point where you need a trailer. I've done a few grocery trips and a cargo bicycle trailer will hold approximately one shopping cart.

+1 TP or beer? Gotta go w/t necessities. Nice ol' Schwinn, btw.

My 'biggest' was a banker's box full of litigation binders. Not actually very large, but quite heavy. Heavy enough that I worried about the maximum load capacity of my rack (it turned out it is rated for 55 LBS -25 Kg, so I needn't have worried).

It was not my happiest ride.

I want to get a Burley Travoy. Not exactly a huge cargo trailer, but with just me and the cat the heaviest things I usually haul is a bucket full of pine-scented sand.

I used to tow my go-carts all over town when I was a kid with my Stingray.....I'd hook the front nerfbar over the back of the banana seat and off we would go,lunch, tools and gas can in the seat.

I don't own a car. at the moment I have 3 bikes, a CAAD10, custom Hunter 29er and a Surly Big Dummy.

the big dummy is my "truck". I use it for all kinds of stupid things. I've actually moved my personal belongings with it at least 3 times.

you can get pretty silly with a cargo bike.

while visiting in LA, I had found a tool box from a pickup truck.

Back in my car free days I had an AC unit, most of my clothes and some groceries on my bike when I was moving to another apartment. Mangaged to move all of my stuff minus the entertainment center via my bike.

The most impressive thing I've seen was the other day I saw a guy transporting a huge 6 shelf, shelving unit on his bike. Thing was probably 5-6 fee long about 4 wide. He had the bottom tied down to the bike rack on the back a strap around the seat post, and top have laying across the handlebars/stem with a strap. I don't know how he planned on turning but I gave him a thumbs up as I drove by.

Ice hockey equipment bag, and stick bag with three sticks. Was fighting for a spot on a Junior team, and missing a practice was generally not a good career move. Doing that for a week in Massachusets in December was entertaining but I was well warmed up by the time I got to the rink!

(Probably 60 lbs of crap - this was the 1980s)

A 36 pack of Boxer lager in my large Banjo Brothers messenger bag. Did that a couple times and then stopped after I dislocated my shoulder.

I've done the case of beer and panniers of groceries on the back rack a few times, but the most impressive thing I have ever seen carried on a bicycle was on a visit to Beijing in 1986. I was on a public bus sitting in traffic and a guy on a bicycle rode by with a full-sized refrigerator on a rack on the back of his bike. He had a helper half-running in back of him balancing the fridge while he pedaled out of the seat to keep the thing moving. The rear tire was either flat or so crushed by the weight that he was basically riding the rim over the squished sidewalls.

It was simultaneously impressive and kind of nutty.

I think you might be on to something there...my bike has air conditioning built in but for some reason it only works going downhill.

I carried a full size computer tower wrapped in a comforter on a cheap alloy rack on the back of my 10 speed for about 30km once. That was slow going and ultimately destroyed the rack... Half the trip was spent with the rack slammed firmly into the rear brake arms, but I wasn't going very fast anyway and there was no chance of an endo.
I've hauled groceries in panniers with a two-four on top, or large bins of cat litter plenty of times. I moved most of my possessions once in boxes stacked quite high and strapped down, but that was on a trailer and took several trips.
I found my Axiom rack is rated for 45kg but I've hauled adults sitting on it with no worries of it breaking... When I say "adults" I mean, on more than one occasion, not more than one adult.
