Chef Fall Down Go BOOM BOOM
It was such a nice commute this morning until about 1/2 mile away from work. Decided to take a back route which is a small path close to work that is paved. Nice area and heavily wooded. I notced some pieces of twigs and such on the ground but no issue. It was pitch black out and I was feeling good. Curved into a slight turn, noticed more twigs I needed to avoid and BAAAAAMMMMMM I hit a split treet that was portruding out into the path. Fell and took a skid on my left side. Scraped up and left wrist a little mingeled and left palm killing me. Banged my head and nice to have a helmet! Took a quick glance of the bike and it looked ok.
The last half mile to work took a long time it seemed. Couldnt apply pressure on my left wrist and it hurt to put my palm on any part of my bars. Just another day! |
Okay, let me get this straight. You took half mile path through the woods, in the dark? What kind of lights are you using? I'm not criticizing, I've been known to do dumb things like that myself. But... well, yeah. Hope you feel better!

It wasent stupid at all (and I take no offence by your comment). The stupid thing was 1) going to fast around a blind corner and 2) paying too much attention to the twigs on the ground prior to the down tree. It was a painful mistake but I learned a lot. |
Glad you're OK. Hope you have antiseptic or something at work for the palm.
|
Glad you're ok. Good to hear that damages
to yourself and bike are not too serious :) |
Gald you're ok but stop hurting the trees or you'll have Greenpeace on the back :D

Bummer. Glad to hear you are ok, for the most part. Stupid trees!!

Keep the swelling down in the palm to avoid nerve impingement. You might have hairline cracked a bone in your hand, so RICE and non-steroid anti-inflammatory that bad boy. Move to a Doc and steroid based anti-inflammatory if swelling won't go down with RICE/NSAI

My riding buddy told me when I went down. "at least you didn't hur the bike, Skin will grow back"

If this is a paved path an the tree is protruding out into the path in a potentially problematic part of the trail I would consider notifying someone to trim it back. I don't like cutting up trees needlessly but this seems like it could cause a serious injury to somoene.

Glad to hear that you are okay but... Dude, if I posted every time I did something stupid and hit the ground, my post count would be somewhere around 100,000:rolleyes: If it's an epic crash with a huge yard sale, go ahead and post it. You get points for epic. If it's just you being dumb...and dumb happens to us all...look on it like Fight Club.

Soooo, I'll be the first to ask. How much force did the helmet take? Do you need to buy a new one?

At least you now have an answer to the age old conundrum:
If a tree falls in a forest, and there is no one to hear it, does it make a sound? Yes it does, it's just delayed, and it goes BOOM BOOM :) |

That's what slamdancing will get ya.

By the way, get a new helmet if you haven't already. They are only good for one impact. |

My only gripe is that you need to come up with a better story next time. Something like:
"This one time" (every epic crash starts with that) "I was cruising down the path on my beach cruiser at 30mph" (have to exaggerate for a good story) "Then suddenly" (obvious shift in story) " This chick in a skin tight leather body suit pops up in front of me, zipper from front cleavage and as I saw going by it continued under and up the back. Then suddnely I look back forward an WHAMMMMMM! Tree in the face". Now that is more interesting. :thumb: |
