New saddle bag, Riv Little Joe ...

I just got a Rivendell Little Joe, and have some concerns about setting it up on my bike. I just put it on, but it hits the back of my legs as I pedal. I haven't fiddled around with the set up yet, but wanted to find out if this was to be expected with a saddle bag. My saddle (Champion Flyer) is pretty far back, could that be the problem?

It doesn't interfere with my pedaling, just rubs the back of my thigh. More of an annoyance than a real problem - so far.

It may be a minor annoyance now, but it will be a big annoyance with added miles.

My rear panniers juuuuuust clip my heel if I don't set them up correctly. They need to be placed as far back on my rear rack as they can go. Then, no problem.

If your rack is too short, your bags will sit too far forward. You may need to get a longer rack.

If you had a pic of your setup, people may be able to help you out. I'm just guessin'!

Consider getting an SQR adapter for the saddlebag. wallbike.com sells these. They made by Carradice for their bags, but should work for any bag designed to attach to Brooks saddle loops. The adapter has two parts. There is a holding fixture that bolts to your seatpost and a metal frame that attaches to your bag. The frame fits into the adapter and is easily removed. SQR = Seatpost Quick Release.

The advantage for you is the mount holds the bag back a bit from the seatpost by about 1.5 inch You can also adjust the height of the bag by where you place the adapter which also helps. I use SQR adapters with a large Carradice Camper seatbag and it never touches my legs.

Having a quick release for the bag is great as well.
