Car drool...

Coldest day of the year here I think. And all was well, finally got to wear the winter gear I bought. But oh how I hate car drool. You know, that water that comes out the tail pipes and leaves a nice line of frozen ice on the road.

How cold was it this am? It was 4 up here in R.I. Now it's up to about 8.

TimHaan- In Alaska (where I've lived most of my life) at this time of year it's coldest on sunny days. Oddly enough, in the cold winter clouds trap heat in more than they keep it out.

oh yeah, i know that from living in AZ where the cloudless sky would make the temp drop dramatically at night. i just think having the sun out makes it seem warmer than it actually is. kinda like beer makes you feel warmer than you actually are. ;)

The temperature guage on my neighbor's window read 9 degrees. Might reach 5 on friday. The sun definitely helps if there's no wind, the air temperature might be colder but ironically all my cold weather stuff's all black (cause that's all they had) and soaks up heat pretty good. Plus you really learn to appreciate drafting behind buses and cars, if only the poisoned air and slick drool wasn't so bad.

It was 6 here. It wasn't bad all except I had on a sweater underneath my jacket and I was way hot and my toes were a little numb. Need more socks.

Definitely extreme commuting, guys! Have a good trip on the way home.

Hardcore.

I wimped out and drove this morning. I've ridden in this temperature before (4 F this morning here, with wind chill), but I'm catching a cold, and I didn't think riding would be good for it. (Or maybe it would be -- that sounds like another thread.) Anyway, the thought of my nose filling up and oozing into my face mask half-way into the ride was extremely unappealing!

I'd take my hat off to you, except it's too damn cold! Be careful out there, guys!

You really warm up on the bike though, I had on windproof stuff and it was starting to get stuffy too.

Wool sweater + Lands End ski jacket + 61" fixed gear (it's my snow bike but as it turned out the entire route was clear enough that I could have gone with the FG roadie) = spin like a MADMAN and melt down.
