Would this be a good jacket?
If I can get this jacket for $60, would it be a good one to use on my commute to work each day? I need something as the weather's getting cooler, but have never heard of this particular jacket before.

After getting soaked yesterday, I ordered the Pearl Izumi Barrier jacket from Amazon for $55. High-viz yellow.
As for that jacket, I do not like the colors. Too dark. |
Any jacket that doesnt have the seams sealed will leak given enough time (like that particular one). For me, I gave up on trying to keep dry and focused on keeping warm. Wear wool (or something that breathes) and something to keep the wind at bay. Start on the light end of layering and work up from there. The only thing that I really try to waterproof is my feet (cuz they get cold when they get wet), so I bought some nice cycling boots.

I need to look into cycling boots that clip into SPD pedals. My feet were soaked yesterday.

I got a 'portland' jacket from them.. reduced$ in last years color.. but for rainfall
in the quantity that the NW Coast sees in the winter, I get out my Grundens made cycle rain cape.. But the jacket is OK in light drizzle , and the rain while I unlock my bike , then will put on the cape over it. above poster should look into some of their shoe-covers.. I use LL Bean boots, on my feet since I'm over the clip-less thing |
I have a Showers Pass jacket, don't know which offhand, and it kept me dry in a total downpour that I rode through for over an hour, maybe even two. I was too miserable to know how long I was out in it. It was also the last time I used it as I just don't ride in the rain. I was on vacation in Seattle and I wasn't going to let the rain stop me that week and I bought it the day I arrived.

Showers Pass makes good rain jackets. The one linked is not a rain jacket, it is merely water "resistant" which means after 15 minutes of a drizzle it will start letting water in. It also doesn't look vented. And it is not visible or reflective. Probably better for commuting on a subway or bus than on a bicycle. I mean, doesn't the weather get pretty tough in OH?
