Cannondale CaadX as Commuter and Urban Errand Bike

I've been thinking about adding a bike to the stable that will take a rack for commuting and around town errands. I kind of want something steel just because but there are not may local options. I saw a CaadX recently and being partial to Cannondale anyway I started to think.

Anyway, just wondering if any is ridding one and your impressions for this type of application. Thanks.

Can't say from personal experience but one of the other commuters at my work rides one. He has a 20 mi commute each way so it must work for him.

Thanks. Would be interested to know if he has any particular likes/dislikes with the bike.

I'll ask him when I see him next (our schedules are a little different).

I've been commuting on a CAADX Tiagra for probably around 6 months now. My current commute is 9.5 miles each way and consists of pavement, grass, gravel, MUP and even occasionally even go through about 50 yards of single track. The CAADX has handled everything I've thrown at it like a champ, it's reasonably light (I think around 21 lbs before I put on a rack), the shifts are smooth and it's always been comfortable. I honestly don't have much to compare it to, I've only owned mountain bikes before (I did test ride some road bikes and my roommates Specialized Allez) but I can say I don't regret the purchase at all. Excellent all around bike in my opinion.

Cool. Thanks for the feedback. I take it that you are not finding the alloy frame to be "harsh" or anything compared to steel. I used to have a steel cross bike and loved it and now I'm wishing I kept it. I have a regular caad and it's not harsh at all so I'm not expecting the X to be worse but I don't know that they are engineered the same. Of course, good tires have a pretty big impact as well.

Looks like a winner to me.
