IGH for winter use

Looking for input or recommendations (for or against) on any IGH models for winter commuting. I sometimes have to ride in deep-ish snow and sometimes have to ride in sub zero temperatures. I've heard of problems with the shimano 8 in super cold. And I'm leaning toward simple 3 speed (not so many hills around here).

Any models to stay away from? Any models with good cold weather reputation?

I've had a problem with the Shimano Nexus 8, it broke! I have replaced it with the NuVinci N360 and have lived happily after...so far.

I use a Sturmey Archer 5 speed hub in the winter. It works fine. Just give it a nice oil bath before the freeze.

If you mean the price of the Nuvinci, it's around $360 for the hub, shifters and cables.

have used a nexus 8 on my winter commuter - it has been pretty trouble free, have tidden it in below zero temps, axle deep snow, slush and mud. Hear of complaints about their shifting performance in cold weather - perhaps the shift is a little more sluggish at 0 than at 80, a small adaptation. i think the root of concerns about winter performance of this hub, isn't the hub - it is the shifter and cables. keep you bike at outside temp (don't let it freeze & thaw) & keep the cables and shifter mech from icing up.

I never had cold weather problems with an S-A AW or S5 hubs at -15F, or my Sachs (SRAM) Spectro S7 hub at -5F.
