new bike with 26 inch wheels
I currently have a hardtail MTB with 26 inch wheels and I am looking for a new ride. I am looking for a suspension-free bike with 26 inch wheels, but it looks like this is impossible. I haven't seen any from any major bike manufacturers.
Two years ago I paid over $120 for Nokian winter tires and I can't see myself blowing this investment by getting a new bike where these tires don't fit. The tires are still in perfect shape.
Anybody out there who knows of a manufacturer that still makes 26 inch wheeled bikes without suspension?

Yeah, check out the Surly LHT. It used to be 26" for 54cm frames and under, but for the last few years I think you can get the 26" version on almost all the sizes I think.

why are you against front suspension?
most mid-/high-end European touring bikes use high-quality front suspension.
These aren't high-end but would be on par with a Surly/Salsa/high-end Trek:

I will confirm that you can get the Surly Long Haul Trucker with 26 inch wheels in any size frame now. I have a 56cm and got 26 inch wheels.

Sell them on Craigslist or ebay.. It doesn't make sense to purchase a new bike with the 26" limitation IMO.

Maybe not exactly the answer you were looking for but if you have a budget that allows for getting something new, you have a world of options in the used market.

You guys came up with some good suggestions, love the Handsome Cycles XOXO, like the Surly Troll as well. And that Marin is a steal, isn't it. Never saw a LHT with flat bars (which is what I think I want to get), but I'm sure somebody built it up like that.

Is it a safe assumption that your "26 inch" Nokian winter tires are ISO559?

Ok, I just asked my LBS to order the Troll, they are still doing the numbers on what makes more sense to get the complete build or just the frame. They still got the orange one, btw. Very excited!!

Just a guess, but based on the op's Chicago location and Nokiian winter tires, maybe he doesn't want suspension to make fender mounting easier?

Lucky you.. I got a purple one coming my way. Considering running a 650B wheelset though to hit the trails every once in a while and might jump in a cross race

Actually, I like the purple quite a bit, just figured the orange will give me visibility advantage in the urban jungle :-)
Going with a 45t single crankset instead of the triple. And I'll ditch the handlebars for flat ones.
