commuter crash
 

crashed my bike the other day on the way to work. i was going over the bridge that i cross every day in the cycle lane. i was forced over to the right by some idiot and ended up clipping the railing that seperates the bike lane from the cars. went down face first in to the floor. quickly got back up and carried on riding before i noticed the blood pouring from my head. i decided that i could make it to work so i kept going. when i realised that i had lost my bike glasses i turned round to go back for them, at this point i realised that i was in shock decided to sit down and call everyone until someone showed up to take me to the hospital where i had a few stitches and cleaned up all my wounds.

people always make fun because i wear full bike kit, helmet, gloves etc but no doubt that helmet saved me. but these are the same people who left me bleeding from the head on the side of the road without so much as an 'are you okay?' not a good day but could have been worse so...

just thought i'd share that in case anyone has second thougths about buying a helmet.:)

1. don't yield, if you have the right of way, to another bike/pedestrian.
2. always wear a helmet

I'm glad you made it out of this alive and not seriously injured. It could have been worse w/o a helmet, as you pointed out. I had an accident a few years ago where my helmet saved my life! Never leave the house w/o one now.

Oh, man. I'm glad you are okay. The trauma from even the most minor of bike crashes can be unsettling. I use Bach's rescue remedy (flower essences) tincture for any form of shakeup - I'm sure there are plenty of 5-element Chinese Medicine practitioners that might be able to set you up with some herbal mixtures, if you're in to that sort of thing.
+1 on the helmet - wearing one has saved me more than once.

i live in china so i'm a believer in the herbal stuff and its readily available, sometimes its all thats available :)

Friend of mine crashed his bike on his way to work the other week. The helmet's brow skidded on the concrete and prevented his face and the side of his head getting scraped up and bleeding all over creation. It forced him to abort his commute but he didn't look like an escapee from The Walking Dead the next day.

Sorry to hear it, hope you heal up quickly and get back out there. Head cuts really bleed a lot for even the small ones and then add the sweat factor and you're a bloody mess!

I nearly went down today for my own bonehead move. There is a narrow S bend with chain link fences on both sides on the MUP and I was buzzing along at 22mph carelessly enjoying the scenery when i realized I was entering the turn! I shoved it into the turn but stupidly dabbed the front brake which made it worse. i quickly let off the brake and got it through the turn safely enough but chided myself on my stupidity.
