Why do you insist on buying stuff that you call crap later? Follow the "Fool me once .. " adage.

windhchaser 11-15-12 05:44 PM

I'm confused. Title is "MY latest piece of crap", but then you says, "This is what im replaceing" Is the bike in the picture your latest, or is it what you are replacing?

chipcom 11-15-12 07:34 PM

that crate is not a piece of crap, I like mine just fine!

windhchaser 11-15-12 07:37 PM

the bike in pic is the old one that im going to get rid of and get a better bike i only have like 125 bucks in it and thats with new tires and cables

Versa2nr 11-15-12 09:04 PM

Please elaborate. I am curious as to what is going on with it. Was looking into one as a rainy day/ bad weather commuter so that I am not taking my XC rig all the time.

windhchaser 11-15-12 09:07 PM

well it rides nice but the brakes suck .it is the first bike ive had with disk brakes.im already replacing the rears calipers

Stomper 11-15-12 09:12 PM

why can't you just upgrade the brakes. Save the money for a nice used bike in the future. Depending on where you live, you also could consider joining a bike coop to work towards upgrading this bike or obtaining a nicer used bike.

Versa2nr 11-15-12 10:38 PM

Hrmmm.. so a brake upgrade would be needed. I have some old avids around here somewhere. You said you have 125 invested into the bike itself? I looked at on the other day and it looked pretty decent for a department store rig. I really appreciate the info.

maidenfan 11-15-12 10:47 PM

Save a little longer and you'd probably find a nice, used bike off craigslist that last you a long time. Unfortunately, cheap bikes have very cheap parts that will not last - you'll end up nickel and diming yourself way past the cost of a decent bike.

my comment was vague, unfortunately.

keep the bike and learn how to upgrade it with used parts from eBay. start with used Avids if cable driven brakes or Shimano if you have hydraulic systems on the bike. the frame and components look fine.

as far as your living space goes, take care of it. is that a BBQ on your side table? and what's with the papers blowing around on the floor. also, i hate carpet because it's super hard to clean, so don't leave your bike standing on it without newspaper.

make your place presentable before you take a photo and share it.

just my .02€

scroca 11-16-12 06:12 AM

Why would you get rid of it? It's n+1, not n+1-1.

Astrozombie 11-16-12 06:58 AM

Bit too...flamboyant? Only Mongoose i had was as a kid (bmx) so idk where they stand among the department store brands. I guess if it's the right size it's ok....don't they sell legit bikes for $50 used though?

I don't mean to be insulting, I'm simply seeking clarity on a mystery that seems to elude my brain... you payed money for that walgoose 29er?!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

ckaspar 11-16-12 01:21 PM

How much have you spent on the several bikes you have purchased and gotten rid of? You have to be somewhere in the range of a really nice bike that will suit all your needs. If you had taken the advice of the countless posts of advice that we have given you then you would have saved a lot of money and grief over all of this.

You say the brakes are crap. What is wrong with them? Would it save you money if you simply adjusted them until they did work? My brakes rub a bit and when they do I simply adjust them up and the rub stops. No sense throwing good money after bad money. Make the bike work for you until you can afford a real LBS bike and not yet another Wally World bike that you like one week then call crap the very next week.

I don't mean all of that to sound like I am being a prick. I am just trying to save you money and grief.

the brakes are disk brakes the part that turns the screw that forces the pad to the disc strips out so it just turns not engaging the pads to disk i put a new caliper on it today a course it is way beter now.but im hearing some odd noise thats driveing me batty now.sounds like its from rear wheel bearing are fine

windhchaser 11-16-12 07:30 PM

You should save about twenty dollars per week until Thanksgiving of 2013. Then go to that new bike store and buy a really nice brand new bike! :)

Shoot for either the Cannondale Quick 4, the Quick SL3, or the Bad Boy 9 ...

PS.

Don't buy anything that doesn't come with a warranty and some type of service agreement! :thumb:
