Per MapQuest, 2.11 miles. Though, that's a more direct route that I don't take, so I might be more like 2.2 or 2.3.

about 2 miles each way. very busy/heavy traffic street. At least that is what it will be if my LBS ever gets my ordered bike in!
|
Sometimes I work in a room off of my garage. If I count the walk through the garage to get there it's 8 steps and I walk by a bike or two on the way, sometimes stop to do some maintenance. Does that count?

My commute is .8 miles each way; about four minutes at a leisurely pace. I feel guilty even being in the commuting forum but have learned lots about bikes.

I've read the threads on long, grueling commutes. Each one makes me cringe. It is time for me to confess. My commute is less than 4 miles each way! ...

Last year I commuted 6 miles each way to the school where I teach. Over the summer I subbed at a school out in the burbs, 18.5 miles each way (the way out was uphill city, but I got to coast about 1/4th of the way home at 25-30 mph!). Now, I'm back at my school in Mpls, and my gf and I have moved: my commute is a horrid 1.25 miles!
I have to say, I think 6 miles is the best length. The ride is just long enough to get you breathing and the blood pumping in your veins. You wake up. You get some meditation time before work. And it's not too long to make rainy, snowy, or ultrahot days uncomfortable. |
The school where I teach is within eyesight of my house, and it's downhill. On a bad day it takes me 4 minutes to get there. I win.

The distance of your commute is irrelevant. If you enjoy commuting by bike then that's all that matters. It's funny how a lot of guys gauge their machismo on length. :roflmao2:

Re: the OP sounding like his short commute is something to be ashamed of, there's nothing wrong with a short commute! When I was in college I lived just off campus & my commute was a couple miles give or take (depending upon what part of campus I needed to get to).
The short commute accommodated two things that I came to appreciate: I could ride casually in my street clothes, and I could use a heavier junker bike (a '73 Schwinn Varsity) that nobody would vandalize or steal parts off of. |
During the summer my commute is 2.7 miles, my summer school job is much closer than my regular school job.

Over the last 8 years, mine were--in round trip miles:
PA = 28 VT = 24 FL = 18 KY = 9 I like the short commute. In VT and PA, I had to carry all kinds of parts and tools 'cuz having a flat or break-down could have serious ramifications. In KY, I just jump on the bike and roll. No bags, guns, toolage, etc . . .If something happens, I am in walking distance of wherever I was going. Its just a nice contrast to the hi-mile stuff :) |
My commute is about a mile each way and I love it. I bike in dress shirt and dress shoes and hardly break a sweat.

5.1km (3.2 miles). I can ride with studs on every day, even in July but the best sparks are in May. By July they are pretty worn.
Last year was my first winter with studs. They came off sometime around April/May, and went back on in October. 15 minutes twice a year... totally worth it! I probably recover that time in a week of riding. Oh yeah, my commute is pretty short too. 6 miles (10k) ish to stay on pathways, or 5 miles if I take the steep direct hill and be vehicular. Or, if I'm really lazy, 3 km (almost 2 miles!) in the river valley to the train, which then takes me up the hill. It's just that stupid hill that makes me wuss out in the morning sometimes... |
1.6 miles each way
|
My commute is just under 4.5 miles. I rarely do less than 8 miles on the way home, though, and I have a nice variety of routes, from about 8.5 to 15 that I can take without going way out of my way.
|
My commute would be 1.5 miles if I went the shortest route but that is not enough to even warm up. I go the roundabout way and average ~7 miles one way.

3.7 miles by the most direct route, one way.

To school, it's about 3.5km one way. Pretty short, but I try to make it a workout and push a higher gear the entire way.

My commute for work is either .3 or .4 depending on the route i take. I do ride everywhere else so I can still commute 6k+ in a year.

In my humble old opinion, all commutes on bikes are good. Even if it is just one mile!!
