Buying a front fender only

Hello,

I picked up a Surly LHT second hand that had only a rear fender installed. Does anyone sell just a front fender or am I stuck buying a complete set?

thanks!

I don't know of any companies that break up their sets. You could either buy a MTB fender(Topeak DeFender,SKS Shockboard) and add a long mudflap,or post in the wanted forum or your local CraigsList to see if anyone has a spare laying around.

edit: or just make one

If it were smaller wheel Planet Bike has each sales in mudguards for recumbents.

20" there is a front , or rear .. 16" a front only..

I have used 2 rear mudguards and had the front one long enough to reach the hoop
of my low rider racks.

Check with your LBS, they may have an Orphan , Used, front Mudguard..

Planet bike sells individual fenders. I highly recommend ordering them from the Hostel Shoppe. They are even willing to mix and match different sizes individually, since they cater to a lot of trike and bent riders.

If the rear fender is a Planet Bike, try calling their customer service. They have always done right by me.

+1 on this. Planet Bike's customer support is very helpful.

If you have a bike co-op nearby, check with them. Our co-op has lots of fenders, but few of them are actual sets.

Your local LBS or Co-op should be able to source a 2nd hand one? If not there should be someone on here that should have a spare?
Rear gaurds can be modified to fit. Also the MTB boys can fit splash guards on frame, they attach to the down tube via Velcro strips or cable ties.
Failing all of these eBay should have some cheaper ones available.
I with a rear rack am running a full set, on some bikes you might need to file a groove to clear interference from rack.
Large plastic bottles cut in half down the bottle with cable ties to frame make a good make shift guard too.

Check out www.bikehacks.com there are some great ideas on here for emergency type situations.
