Sounds sensible. I am really lucky right now that I have a paying gig that could be 10AM-7PM, but during short days they let me alter the times so I can bolt as early as 4:30PM. Now the days are lengthening so I can stay until about 5:30 and still get home with reasonable sky glow (and my headlight of course). As the days get longer my hours just extend to meet them.

I've been rolling with a Countour since November. You can check out my typical commute on my channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6leEQla-eMU

Toronto, ON, about 10km to the waterfront.

I'll probably put up a video of winter ride when I get a nice enough video of one.

Interesting mix of suburbs and downtown. I like the separated bike lanes. That's pretty cool. I've heard some rumors that we may get a few in LA, but knowing the city, they'll be someplace useless.

What an awesome ride to work! Does the path(s) get plowed? How is it after dark?

Reminds me of a 6 mile stretch of commute I had in the mid '80s along a lake on an old, abandoned highway about twice the width of your basic bike path. Much of it was wooded, the lake was visible about half the ride and always within earshot of the waves. Private citizens built small parks along the way, some using washed-up trash (plastic jugs, crab trap floats, boat cushions. baby dolls, glass bottles - anything that fell overboard and made it to shore) to create artistic works, benches, and tables.

Alas, the woods are gone and the path destroyed by levee reconstruction that has continued for 20 years along that 10 mile stretch of old highway. There will be a bike path again some day, but the wild nature of it is totally gone. It was nice to think about it again. Thanks for the reminder!

Nice ride. A few attempted right hooks, trucks in the bike lane, bird attack, lane split, frontloader squeeze, and a few other bike commuters. Pretty typical bike ride into the city. Even though auto traffic was light it still appeals to me when I am NOT in a car sitting in a line of stopped traffic.

I recognized a lot of the Toronto grid but seems like there were a lot more train/trolley tracks in other Toronto commuting vids I have seen. You going parallel to the tracks on other streets? Just curios.

Although perhaps most people do the large majority of the time in that city (no idea just guessing), you would think in a city as dense as N.Y., looking both ways (where applicable) would be a learned habit. Apparently not...

It's the first and currently only one of its kind. And it has been a bit of a source of dispute in the larger battle between cyclists vs. drivers vs. city council. It's a little outside the heart of the downtown core and runs through a few blocks you could describe as 'sketchy'. But they are very nice and for me they're great as they take me right to the office.

Downtown has 2 major N/S trolley routes, but they don't extend to where I cross those two streets. I do cross a bunch of E/W routes. My route doesn't take me down any roads where I'm alongside tracks.

I try to always remember when squeezing into tight spaces,
that I'm not the only one doing it; peds, other cyclists, scooterati, etc.

Have you ever tried using the double-yellow line as a bike lane? Works great for me, and often the oncoming lanes are empty of traffic much of the time which helps me avoid continual squeezing in areas where pedestrians can pop out between buses and cars like a Wack-a-mole game.

No, couple more years before we get to do that. He did pass a budget that promised significant kms of new bike routes, however. But I'll wait to see when and where before I start offering up any praise. Talk is cheap.

Here is my commute, running at 2x speed. The text claims it's over 10km, but it's actually only just over 8. I also no longer ride that close to parked cars or the curb. I now ride in the right tire markings in the right lane.

Indeed it's nice. But no, when it snows the path does not get plowed, which, depending on your mood that day, it's fun! After dark is fine, there are lights all the way.

This is one option, by the Fjord, 7km (4miles). I wish it was longer
The second and faster option is through the road with the cars.
And there's a third longer option through the forest

--- edit
road option (sorry for the bad quality, it's still dark in the morning)

I admire you guys cycling in such a heavy traffic, squeezing between a bus and a truck ... Brave.
Take care!

Notice we have to squeeze between them because they're not moving or moving slower than us. It looks brave, but it's easier than riding w/ traffic flying past you.

Sure. I guess in this kind of ride you have a little of everything. I mean, traffic moving fast, slow, all stuck, pedestrians appearing out of nowhere, cars changing lanes without signing... and my big fear when I'm passing close to parked cars: a car door opening in the last moment
You have to be very attentive... and don't forget your helmet
