if you have to go with a painted frame, orange is pretty good choice.

but an unfinished titanium frame is the sexiest of them all.

I love unpainted ti, but I'm not sure I'd call it sexy.

Pick the color you like, if you have choices. My bikes are black, forest green, sky blue, blue-green and titanium gray. Visibility is much more dependent on clothing choices and lights than bike frame color

hybridbkrdr 01-04-13 03:17 PM

I prefer to be seen. Some bikes I like just don't run in colors like yellow.

I never thought this was naked, or sexy, but it sure rides well:

The color of the bike itself isn't/wasn't a factor, I know how to use duct tape and spray paint.
My bags on the bike are black.
I wear a J&G yellow rain jacket with a reflective vest.

Go for function. Pink provides the highest theft deterrence.

The pannier straps are making me feel uneasy.

Depends on where it is parked.

That was taken after coming home from my parents... my wife knows better than to leave lose straps near the drive train, though those bags always were a pain to keep tied down. She inherited those from me when I finally got my Ortliebs.

Elaborate would you? Do you mean in NYC a pink bike has higher likelihood for theft relative to some other color for example black in an average area? Obviously location matters more, but someone with some common sense would know I was considering location as a control.

And someone with a sense of humor might have a clue about the drift of this entire discussion about specific color schemes.

What? No mention of http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=291945

What I consider to be one of the nicest colours in the world! Bianchi call it "Celeste #227", and there's a treatise on how it might have come by its name on this web-site http://italiancyclingjournal.blogspo...-and-more.html

Color isn't much of a consideration. My latest bike is yellow because that's the only one they had. The rest of my bikes were bought used or were gifts. I've bought two new bikes in the past. My Centurion Pro Tour was light steel blue, I don't know what influenced that color, it was still in the box when I bought it on sale. My Peugeot U08 was a rich purple. I don't know what the other colors were, but I definitely liked the color.

I'm picky about color when I buy a new bike, but after I've ridden the bike for a while and it has evolved into - whatever they evolve into - I generally cover every square inch available with reflective tape from the local hardware store, making the color irrelevant

Just looking into the entryway to my house and I'd say either black or white.

I have my 2 white Trek MTBs from the early 90s, my black Davidson, my black carbon Kuota.

Why all 4 bikes are upstairs as if I'm riding them is another story. While it isn't a frigid cold winter here, I'm certainly not riding enough to keep 4 bikes at the ready. In the summer I always keep my commuter and one roadie upstairs. I guess I have a "honeydo" chore coming up: "can you put the bikes in the basement already?"

I don't think it makes that big a deal on the road either. Bikes are so small that motorist don't really see the bike or the color. They see the rider. Bright clothing there can make a difference but the bike? Not so much.

Have you seen the Scott sub 30. If a driver couldn't see that, then they shouldn't be driving. They have one at my LBS. Frist time I saw it, it nearly blinded me when I walked in. (Sorry no pics. Can't seem to make it work from my phone.)

are you talking about the 2012 Scott SUB 30 with the bright day-glo orange paint job? if so, i have a 2011 Scott SUB 10 which has the same glow in the dark orange paint. i don't know if the paint job necessarily makes my bike more visible to motorists on the road, but it certainly doesn't make it less visible ;)

Yea, that bad boy is hella bright. Now that's a color people shouldn't miss that bike.

fietsbob 01-06-13 03:29 PM

Halo is a kind of Powder-coating that reflects light, the color in daylight is silver grey,
like the same sort of stuff that Signs and tape use , (until a transparent color is overlaid)

But that is a custom redo project.. not a stock, out of the shipping container and warehouse
bike option.

Brian@PedalBIG 01-06-13 03:36 PM

I have a black Surly LHT, with black Brooks saddle, black front and rear racks, (and Silver SKS fenders). I call her "Pearl". I can testify to the fact that black is heavier, it is slower, and completely unnoticeable in a bike rack. That is why I have black!
