2013!! How Was your Commute Today?

Around 14C/57F and no wind. Was a glorious ride this morning. Early in the commute, I was behind a car with the word "Genius" written on the back, but the driver was anything but. Weaving into the bike lane, trying to make a last second lane change into a crowded lane...made sure I stayed behind him! Later on a MUP, I came across a felled tree (courtesy of some beavers, apparently) laying over 80% of the path. I managed to move it partially out of the way.
'grats! I just passed 1000 commuting miles yesterday. That's a little low for me compared to past years, but I'm working from home a couple days a week now, so that's really cut back on my miles.

thanks @groovestew I had just wanted to double it and now I am wondering how far I will go by the end of the year. My wife told me last night she is bought into me riding to work. I wonder if I can convince her to let me get one of these or this i like them both. maybe someday down the road ... literally

Got all ready to go this morning and noticed a bad pain in my left leg and hip. I tried sitting on the bike and peddaling around the driveway but was too painful. I think I have a pulled muscle. Decided to drive in. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel better.

I am fairly new to this forum and cycling. I first commuted to work on my bike on Bike to Work Day in June. I liked it so much that I am doing it most the time now. I even bought a new bike this last weekend just for commuting. So Cudos for Bike to Work Day. My ride is 10 miles each way and it is a very nice ride across Cherry Creek Park in Denver Co. The ride in this morning was very nice with temps in the 60's and no wind. I live right next to a middle school so there are lots of people on the MUP (I'm guessing MUP means multi use path) close to my house. That's ok. I'm not fast and I give my bell a work out.

Hit the CX practice ride on the way home last night. Good times, but I had to deal with goat heads. Luckily, the tire sealant worked well enough to get me home.

10.1 miles (16.23km) in to work, 11.6 miles (18.67km) home (different route)
Gotta road bike but too much stuff to carry comfortably in a backpack (yes, I carry too much). Normally, I run 700x35 Marathons on the KHS Tempe 29er but I switched 3 weeks ago to the Kendas when I took off to the cottage and haven't switched back (ok, truth be told, I forgot the Marathons outside the cottage, my in-laws will get them to me this weekend).

Not the best commute today. I am a multimodal commuter and the train broke down on the way in this morning. After waiting almost an hour and a half for a rescue train, we have to disembark down a very steep exit with a large drop to the tracks. Not fun to do carrying a bike (thankfully another passenger held the bike as I got out and handed it to me). Walking between the tracks with piles of gravel made for an uncomfortable trip to the other train. When I got to the city, I go outside and it is raining. Now I checked the weather before I left and it said nothing about rain. At least the bike portion of the commute was without incident! Took four hours to get to work today... Not too fun!

Mellow ride in today, still feels like mid summer. Happy holiday weekend to everyone in the U.S.

Comfortably cool ride in although it started to rain part way so I was drenched when I arrived but who cares, I biked in.

Felt much better this morning and took one of my recently restored road bikes in as it was dry out and 47degF. Took a long time today as I left a little later and the traffic was heavier once I got into the city. It was all of 1hour 20mins. It was a nice commute though didn't even sweat one drop. I think fall is just around the corner, although temps and humidity levels are expected to rise again.

Another hot muggy morning. I left a little late which led to more stops at traffic lights (a lot of traffic lights blink caution until 6am)
I had an interesting (well, it was not the normal routine) event happen on the MUP this morning.
I was headed down toward the creek/bridge when I heard giggling and friendly screeches. Then I rounded a curve to see two women, each standing on the opposite sides of the MUP. As I approached they said they were afraid that I'd not see them and hit them and it's very dark.. I rolled along slowly allowing them to follow through some heavy forested part of the path, then after we crossed the bridge and there was a clearing to one side - we parted ways. They thanked me and I rode on.
A little strange but it is very dark in the section before sunrise. I usually switch my headlight to bright when I go through that section, then dim it back a couple notches at the point we seperated.

Cooler this morning, 69F - sort of a tease since it's supposed to be low to mid 90's this afternoon. Got a 5'er in this week, makes me happy!

loved the ride this morning. Temp was slightly chilly for my tastes (17C) but fine once I got going.
I've been riding without a speedometer this month and I'm surprised to have really enjoyed its absence.
Today was my fastest commute this year, 7 minutes slower than my fastest last year but I wasn't trying to kill it this morning, just enjoying the ride.

Very very humid this morning, when I got to work I was dripping event if the temp. was approx. 19-20° celcius.
Nice tailwind.
Only one or two Fridays to go and I go back to my 4 days/week scedule.

LOL, that's kind of how I beat my previous record, not even trying. Perhaps, when I do try, I push it too hard at the wrong times and end up draining myself before I'm done.

Yesterday was my fastest commute ever I think, 18.5 minutes moving time including both parking lots - I think I must have had a lot of drafting assist in the heavy traffic for that speed. I recall at least once after a downhill light, pulling in behind an SUV who roared past me and I wound up drafting it at 37 MPH! I usually take a longer, more sedate route and I must have done quite a bit of drafting without really realizing it.

The ride was so nice this morning that I took the long way around Cherry Creek Reservoir. That makes the ride 13 miles instead of 10. I rode the bike to work everyday this week and that is a first for me.

You haven't lived 'till you looked down and seen Benjamin smiling up at you. (That was over twenty years ago. The only "treasure" I came across lately was some ladies underwear and a bit of latex-I passed)

Finished the week strong. I rode through some heavy fog Friday morning but as I got closer to downtown it started clearing up. I was using 2 lights in the front and 2 in the back. One solid and one blinking. I was thinking it was pretty crazy to ride in this fog but Friday ended the bike commuting challenge May 1- Aug 31 at work. My final tally was 78 trips and 901 miles.
My wife and I were talking and pretty amazed that I was able to get that many miles in considering the amount of rain we have had in NC this year.

Yesterday, on ride home, I left as a Tstorm was just beginning to roll in. There is an underpass about 8 miles in on the 13 mile commute that I thought I could make. But at 5 miles the wind and rain started, much stronger than I expected. A passerby with a pickup pulled over and asked if I could use a ride. For the first time in 12 years I took a ride. Glad I did, he was a cyclist and we had a nice conversation. The rain was coming down in buckets and the wind took out the power in quite a few areas (including my office). Never learned his name but if you picked up an old guy on Gilmer road yesterday, Thanks!

a nice ride in this morning, with high humidity and a temp of 63 f degrees and overcast but the clouds are breaking up. It was an uneventful peaceful ride to work.

70, high humidity - fog. I agree with dcb23, it was noticeably darker.
I ran through a full on circular spider web, straight in the face, on the MUP this morning. I felt imaginary creepy-crawlys for the next three miles. There seemed to be a lot more cars this morning, intersections I usually slow through, I was having to stop for three of four cars to pass. Otherwise nice ride.

I felt like no matter which direction I was going I had a headwind :-( blargh, so the 63° felt like 50° to me. Good thing I got my arm warmers this weekend.
Also, this was my first commute in my new clipless pedals. It was surprisingly (and actually a little bit disappointingly) uneventful. Not that I want to fall over or cause myself harm as a result of using them, but I never forgot to clip out when I came to a stop, I always exaggerated which way I lean when coming to a stop to make sure I don't clip out the right foot and then accidentally lean left, and every time I started off I couldn't believe how quickly I could get clipped in. I start with my left foot already in and before I've even I've finished one revolution my right foot was already in. Plus, I never once looked down at them, like I'd been using them for years! Obviously it's a good thing and I'm happy about it, but I was kind of looking forward to having some crazy story to tell my co-workers this morning.
