light off/on rain, mid 60s, not too bad.

joyota 07-31-13 08:46 AM

Amazing! 66°, partly cloudy, and very little traffic (not sure why). Also, I just felt so good this morning. I averaged 15.9 mph which is a 1.2 mph increase over my usual. Cloud nine right now!

ThermionicScott 07-31-13 09:26 AM

Can't complain too much about today's ride in. Still overcast and cool, and I felt like I was dragging a little, but I was hitting speeds of 18-21 MPH during stretches where I don't usually go much faster.

Yesterday's ride home was pretty good, and I think swapping my 50T big ring for a 48T was the right thing to do. I'm cross-chaining a little less, and making more use of the whole cassette. :thumb:

Been bunkered down in my home office for the past few business days trying to meet a deadline, so it's been almost a week since I rode my bike. 'Twas nice to ride again today. 10C/50F, low winds. Nice, quiet ride.

oasis3270 07-31-13 03:46 PM

Regretting not riding in the past two days because of rain in the forecast. Ended up not being too bad each day. :(

tigerteeuwen 07-31-13 05:28 PM

Cold in the morning but it kept me from sweating, didn't try to break any speed records, took my time but somehow i ended up at the office at the same time as usual... funny how that works.

The commute home i got hit with a burst of wind before the one big hill that i have to climb on the way home, really took my momentum away from me, but i got a nice tail wind the whole way back.

10km each way commute.

70F/21C A beautiful, dark, damp morning after early rains came through. I love city streets on these mornings.

The ride was nice, but I am not sure I liked the bike. I used my husband's bike today as mine needs to be repaired. It seemed to me to be more work. I am not sure if that is my imagination or it really is. Anyway I am at work and hoping the ride home some how gets better.

I'm hoping that, by using your husband's bike, that he is not able to commute; this might give him incentive to get your bike fixed soon.

Bonus commute today. I thought I would drive due to forecasts for heavy rain all day, but there was nothing showing on the radar when I got up this morning and the forecasters had miraculously changed their tune in the morning newscasts. Hopefully my luck will hold this afternoon as it still incredibly humid here and thunderstorms can pop up at any time. I drove yesterday due to morning rain, and it was a good thing that I did. I had forgotten that I had a cross-town meeting in the afternoon that I needed my car to drive to, plus we got hit by waves of storms all afternoon. My legs felt this morning great after taking the day off, and I got lucky with most of the traffic signals, with green lights at most of the major intersections.

jrickards 08-01-13 07:04 AM

15C (60F), nice ride in. Even better time than yesterday although I had to estimate because my speedo (not my Speedo[SUP]®[/SUP]) is still not fixed and the old replacement is no better. However, I started to ride at 6:42, ended at 7:20, subtract approximately 1 minute for 2 red lights which means that I rode the distance in 37min, a new record. I also had my cell phone running the MapMyRide app to monitor my starts and stops (it automatically stops the timer when it detects that I have stopped): it indicated that I completed the ride in 34:55 which is definitely not correct and apparently, my phone took a shortcut because I rode 16.23km but it went 7.75km. Cloudy today, likely the reason for poor GPS reception. I wonder how a Garmin speedo would have done in today's conditions.

Have a good day people!

cloudy with cross winds. Nice ride. My right leg sciatic nerve is giving me problem again this week. I thought I had fixed this issue, I've been pain free for about a month...

droy45 08-01-13 07:33 AM

It was still a nice 55 degF and sun was rising. I took the road bike this morning for a change. I may need new dental work as I think some of it got rattled loose on these roads. It wasn't my plush commuter for sure. LOL. I had a good ride, a little faster except for my offroad section I had to walk it. I also had a little mishap at an intersection. I started off after stopping and my chain came off the crank and I couldn't unclip fast enough and layed down in the road with the bike. Did not get hurt except for a little road rash and the embarrasment of 4 cars stopping saying are you alright? I felt bad about it but will pay attention to that chain next time. Not used to the bike I guess.

Beautiful, a little humid and a slight headwind, but all in all a good ride. I couldn't commute Monday/Tuesday because of work commitments after hours and yesterday I woke up to rain and didn't want to deal with a wet bike. So I'm riding today, and hopefully tomorrow.

baron von trail 08-01-13 09:27 AM

3rd day riding in this week. Felt great this morning. Fully recovered from the Monday & Tuesday commute after taking the car into work yesterday. Didn't get much sleep last night. So, I'll probably be dragging during the 30 mile ride home.

How's the new saddle? Might your LBS have any solutions?

The nice rides with nice weather continues. I'm loving it.

The saddle is an good improvement but i'm not fully satisfied because it give me a skin irritation problem where the saddle make contact with my butt.
I can do 50-75 kms ride without problems, longer then that the skin irritation become a problem.
Beside that the saddle is very comfortable and It helped a lot to eliminate my sciatic nerve problem.
It's a problem I had for many many years and it got worst in the last 6-8 months, I couldn't drive my van more than 20 minutes before I was crying in pain!
I think it's my fault if the problem came back this week because I stopped my daily stretching routine when the pain went away.
I have an appointment with my osteopath next friday, he should put me back on track.
Fortunately the pain is not as bad as it was during the last months. Last november I went to the Bell Center for the Leonard Cohen Show and the pain was excrutiating, but as I didn't want to miss such a great show I tough it out. 3 hours of great great Entertainment tainted by this throbbing pain!!!
I would still recomend the saddle. You can also ask droy45 about it as he is the one who suggested it to me.

Great weather so far this week, nice and cool. Had a long (for me) ride on Sunday that I thought we leave me hurting Monday, but Monday went well. Tuesday I HAD to drive  so I brought in suits for customer meetings on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday morning my legs were completely dead. No energy at all and had to contend with a headwind on my uphill ride home. Today it was raining as I packed up to go but stopped in time for me to make a mostly dry commute. Legs much better today and still cool weather. Hope the headwind stays away this afternoon.

School started yesterday.

I've had a great summer of riding with some new routes. I've had zero near misses or problems with other road users all summer long - it's been pleasant.
Until yesterday, three close buzz-the-tower passes in the last two days and it's not kids.
It's adults - not the same vehicles I've been seeing day in and day out all summer.
What's with this? I don't get it.

Sorry.
It was nice morning until the green dually pick-up decided that three lanes of road aren't wide enough, he needed to be where I was.

joyota 08-02-13 06:13 AM

Dawn's been coming later lately, which has put my leaving time within the 30 minutes after sunrise where Michigan law requires that your bike have a headlight burning. So, since my Cygolite's still on a FedEx truck in Kentucky, I decided I'd whip up a home remedy. LED Flashlight + 2 zip ties = "legal" :innocent:! Can't wait to get my Cygolite, though! :D

Nice and sunny and mild 14C (58F). Took a short route in because my wife and I were both tossing and turning last night until 3am, maybe even later, so when the alarm went off at 5:30, I didn't want to get up, so I rested until 7 and took a short route in. I wonder if I'll sleep this afternoon at my desk, I do need it.

Tomorrow is the Civic Holiday weekend in Canada so we have a 3-day weekend but it also is the beginning of a 2-week vacation time for me so see you in mid-August!

tarwheel 08-02-13 06:41 AM

My luck ran out yesterday afternoon and I got absolutely dumped on. The sky was black in the direction of my home when I left work, but I thought I could make it home before the storms hit if I rode fast. Didn't make it. The rain started about halfway home and was pouring buckets the last 3 miles. My rain gauge showed about 2 inches of rain when I got home and it was still coming down hard. I've gotten caught in the rain more times this summer than I can remember.

I decided to live dangerously today and ride one of my bikes without fenders. I'm getting bored with riding my fendered bike every day since it's been raining so much. Today is supposed to be dry, so I took my chances and rode my touring bike with no fenders. I didn't account for the wet roads from overnight storms, so I get a lot of splatter from my tires but it felt good to ride another bike for a change of pace.

Have a nice vacation and have a cold one for me!

Another friday at work

Nice commute, a little tailwind. We should get rain this afternoon, looking forward to it as I love riding in the rain.

Absolutely gorgeous morning for a bike ride! Sunny, cool and breezy. Went in a little later than normal and saw probably at least 20 women riders on the MUP. Some alone but mostly in groups of two or three. Is today "Women Ride A Bike Day" or something? Another nice pleasant surprise on this beautiful Friday! :)
