I can tell the air is getting denser as we approach the winter season. My downhill coasting and rest points have dropped in top speed by 2 mph and I haven't changed to studded tires yet. Great ride in this morning at 29 degF and mostly calm.

Last night was a pretty nice ride home. After yesterday morning getting as low as 24 F on my bike computer readout, it was nice to be in the low 50's to upper 40's. I only wore shorts, long sleeve jersey, and windbreaker shell. Normal fingerless gloves and my wool socks. I was only slightly chilly for most of the ride, and had a moderate tail wind most of the way. A far cry difference than Tuesday night when it was 10-15 degrees colder and 20+ MPH headwind. Commute time was 70 minutes as opposed to 82 minutes on Tuesday.

Next week looks like morning lows in the upper 30's to lower 40's, with afternoon highs in the upper 50's to around 60 all week. Perfect fall riding/commuting weather!

This weekend 70's and raining, though.

I've noticed the same drop in speed lately. I couldn't figure out why my average speeds were so slow and then finally remembered good old physics.

That's a nice reminder. I always think something is wrong at first, or that I'm just even slower than I remember.

It was a beautiful day for a ride. After a couple of days of 20's weather, the 40's seemed balmy. Tailwind in the morning and in the face on the way home, but I don't mind, I have more motivation to get home, especially on Friday.

It is a short commute to the bike co-op... the weather made things a little more challenging as we have gotten 4-5 inches of fresh snow.

The highways are a mess and people have been advised not to travel due to slippery conditions and whiteouts.

It is rare that we ever close because of the weather and although it was a little slow, we had enough to keep us busy.

The city streets are quite a mess but the Extrabike handled things pretty well.

54F/12C A beautiful Fall morning. Wet streets covered in leaves (took my corners slow), it was quiet, no wind at all. That'll do for a Monday ride into work.

Same, same...on the ride from Falls Church into the Pentagon. Lots of leaves and very wet made from some fun cornering...but I hit all of the lights, not one red on the way in, great start to the week. Looking forward to a nice ride home this evening.

Yep. It's working a little better. I picked up a North Face vest a couple weeks ago, and that + a flannel shirt worked great in 30 degree weather.

Had a t-shirt on, but second-guessed myself and switched to my long-sleeve thermal shirt. Wrong move! I got to work sweating. Temp was in the low 50s - there's a chance we hit 60F today.

A big storm blew through early this morning and scattered leaves and debris everywhere. As a result, I was riding much farther in the lane than normal. Cars seemed to understand though, and still (mostly) gave me a safe amount of space when passing.

I think I'll just wear my undershirt for the ride home. Luckily, it's supposed to get cooler again tomorrow.

On a fun note, I had to fill up my car's gas tank over the weekend. I kept the receipt from the last time I filled up: September 28th. 8 weeks out of 12 gallons of gas isn't too shabby!

Couldn't do it today. Torrential rains and heavy wind. Just too miserable out to get completely soaked for 1.5 hours. I drove . Should be good the rest of the week though.

Lucky! I'm proud of myself when I go 2 weeks on a tank of gas. One time I even made it 3 weeks.

Would have been nice to ride today, but can't due to scheduling. Planning to ride in tomorrow, though.

41F and stiff crosswind, considering yesterday's weather and tornadoes I was expecting sections of the mup to be unpassable or at least difficult. There was a lot of little bits around but the city workers had cleared the big stuff even before my early morning commute. I saw two trucks still out clearing the small debris - I made sure to say thank you. Tax dollars at work!

According to this morning's paper, the final snowfall tally for Saturday was a good 8 inches, which I can attest to with the amount of shoveling I did over the weekend!

Alas, this likely spells the end of the cycle-commuting season for me. I'll probably still ride now and then, but not regularly anymore. No riding today, we'll see what the rest of the week holds.

Same here, Maine is not too far from Québec so we probably have the same thing going on. 80 to 100 kmh crosswind and pouring rain this morning, that's too much for me. Tonight should be worst, I would've had 70-80 kmh headwind with rain.

I can take any kind of rain, no problem there but 100 kmh Wind is just crazy. So I took my wife's car

Nice 14 mile ride into work this morning. The foggy river and full moon light was beautiful. Temps in the 40's felt good. I need to remember to stop scrunching up my shoulders and relax. Makes my neck hurt.

44F and 97% RH at 6:30am this morning. A bit chilly for the first 10-15 minutes, which means I dressed perfectly for the temperature. Quite a few turkeys on the bike path this morning.

I received a "10 out of 10" on my lighting setup tonight from a fellow commuter on the way home. This is with an L&M Urban 550 (on high) and a half-watt helmet blinky up front, and a helmet mounted Cygolite Hotshot and seat post mounted PDW Danger Zone on the rear. Apparently I can be seen for miles. :-)

Last night's ride home was amazing, I left work early and caught some beautiful evening sun with almost spring-like temps.

Different story this morning: 46F/8C with blustery winds. I was under dressed.

Yeah, that storm went through fairly fast and it would have been beautiful last night to ride home don't you think?

Gusty winds and nice temp around 40degF this morning. Its starting to dry up some after yesterdays storms. Great ride, a little more traffic than usual though.
