Pffft. Look at this guy commuting with his carbon wonderbike and pro kit! He even has the nerve to wear a rainbow jersey! Get some panniers and ditch the backpack, newb!

You could at least get the PeeWee Herman skin suit that's been making the rounds recently.

Add a kickstand and it would be a fine commuter.

that guy would be so much more comfortable commuting on a sensible upright "transportation" bike equipped with a brooks saddle. and whats with the ridiculous kids pajamas? is he too poor to afford normal clothing (e.g. merino underpants, woolen knickers, and a waxed-cotton jacket)?

Bear in mind, "commute" is not an adjective, but a verb.

It doesn't describe a bike, it tells what you do with the bike.

Besides, that's Phillipe Gilbert. He earned those stripes as the current world champion, and he rides for Team BMC.

So yeah, he's on his way to work… as a bike racer.

All true tsi,

But still, I wonder why he's wearing a backpack. Bringing his clothes from his hotel to the team bus maybe?

How can you get the arms inside the strap without bending the arms?

You really believe the Pros wear their helmet straps that tight?

Myself, I wouldn't criticize anyone for what type of equipment they use or how they dress. If someone asks what to wear or what to use I will have my recommendations. True, he has not chosen the best type of equipment for commuting but as long as someone is riding or commuting that's all that counts for me. "Run what u brung"

Well, its not to say that you can't commute to work on a racing bike as you can use anything you are comfortable with. Some people have a bike for every purpose and some only have 1 bike, so I say ride it.

I've commuted on my carbon road bike. It is definitely overkill, but my commuter bike was taken by my son and I wanted to ride in. And while Gilbert will wear white, I won't. Black shorts for me, and a t-shirt for commuting. It felt really fast, but my time was only a minute or two faster over the ten miles.

The backpack is necessary. It's packed with ice and blood bags for the team bus. What's he supposed to do carry them in his jersey pockets?
