New tree bike!

A bike has been in a neighborhood tree for a month now. The reason is unclear(?!). But I figured a month was long enough to leave it before claiming it. It's a 19" Mongoose Crossway 450-- not the greatest bike in the world, but a steel frameset, wheels with steel spokes, and Acera derailleurs. I haven't done too much inspection, but the headset and hubs seem fine, so I'm hopeful! I'm planning to fix it up for a coworker who's wanted a bike, but hasn't wanted to buy a new one. I'll probably get a new stem, bars, chain and seat, and try to salvage as much of the rest as I can. I'll post the picture in a minute.

I'd check with your LBSs and maybe the police before you sink any money into a possibly stolen bike.

Yeah, that's a good thought about checking with the police-- that hadn't occurred to me.

If it isn't stolen, I say do it! Your coworker will be more than pleased with it, especially at a reasonable cost. Free bikes are always the best bikes, IMO.
