Commuting Las vegas
 

Hi, I will be in Las Vegas for the next few weeks, until the end of May. I wonder if there are bike commuters, and if so, what it looking like ridding a bike there.

Most bike commuters will be the guys delivering pamphlets up and down the Strip.

It all depends where you'll be riding. Some areas are easier to ride than others. But what Richard said. They have all the bike lanes and bike friendly roads are. Plus, any LBS will have the physical map if you want that. You can commute anywhere by bike but some scarier than others.

I commuted during the 2 years I lived in LV, but was in Summerlin so my experience is ONLY on the West/North side of town. I found commuting to be quite easy - great roads, bike lanes in some, but not all (low traffic on the routes I chose).

Try Google maps and select "bicycle" for the area of town that you'll be riding in, and it should put a green layer over the map to indicate bicycle friendly roads.

I will be mostly close to the casinos. I don't think that will be the best area. I didn't know there was some bike path, etc. Some of my colleagues told me that they haven't seen lots of cyclist. Since the area where we are relocated is mostly touristic, it might be some of the reason.

Yeah, the Strip is another world entirely. You're better on foot, IMO if that is where you will be. Within 4 blocks in any direction (mainly East/West) your options begin to open dramatically, but it becomes very car and pedestrian - centric in the vicinity of the casinos.

What's considered a 5 lane main road here in Oklahoma is pretty much every street in Vegas, even the neighborhood residential's. I lived there for quite a few years and commuted some of them. Just go for it dude, you'll figure it out.

I used this when I lived in Vegas. A little unwieldy .pdf, but it's moderately useful. Most of the RTC buses have bike racks on them, so that's a plus, too. Don't necessarily know about the Strip, though, because people drive like nuts down there & I never ventured down there on my bike, much less my motorcycle.

Most of the bikes seen on the strip now are hipster a*****es. They cut cars off and are a danger to themselves. I would say and others but if they get hit, the car will be fine.
