opinions needed. is it worth it?

So I found this on CL and I'm wondering if its worth fixing up for a commuter. I don't know much about the brand. Am I going to end up spend way more then the bike is worth?

It would work but it's probably one of the few Miyatas that I would pass on. Miyatas are great bikes but that is a low-end version that I wouldn't want to invest in it in most cases.

If it was just a couple miles and I needed a bike to sacrifice to weather and potential theft I would consider seeing it at that price, though.

The bike is worth very little, but they're also asking very little. Since it looks to be complete, it might be a fine commuter for a while. Eventually you might get frustrated by hard to replace worn out parts, but who knows how long that will take? Worth a gamble, I'd say.

Depends on what you mean by "fix up" and what you want to end up with. The bike looks pretty much ready to go. Basic servicing and maybe tires and brake pads. If you D-I-Y the cost will be minimal. Add a rack and some lights and you are on the road pretty cheap. I commuted on a '77 Schwinn Le Tour II for quite a while. It is similar to the Miata you linked and it was a solid commuter. Not light but neither am I.

Thanks for the fast response. I think I'll pass on this one

Wise choice, Miyata's as a general rule though are really, really nice frames, but the 210 is just a Hi-10 clunker:/
