So:
I used to work downtown as a messenger. So that was pretty much urban riding all day, every day. During that time I also tried to train and do rides and races on the weekends. My current job has me commuting 11 miles each way to work. I typically stretch each ride to 20-30 miles for training purposes (I still race). Basically, you adapt. Nowadays if I was to just ride to and from work it would feel like I was hardly doing anything at all. Everyone has given you awesome suggestions. My one addition is that it is typically mentally harder then physically harder. Take that for what it is worth. |
2mi round trip.
It's embarrassing, I admit. :o |
Isn't that frustrating DVC45? I live in Korea as an English teacher and my school is 15 minutes walking, so 7 minutes biking and it's almost not worthwhile but some days I won't ride if not just to work and back.

I would really just rather walk, but it is still too cold here. |

I am planning on commuting by bike and wondered what the typical distances covered by regular bike commuters were. I'm not sure if I would be too exhausted when I get to my destination, and also if it would be too much by the time the week ended. I bike in a very urban area, with cars posing possibly the highest threat than in any other environment, which adds to my exhaustion.
What is the total number of commute miles you travel each day by bike? (I.e., add both ways.) Besides voting on the polls, could you also say in what environment you commute in? Specifically, urban sprawl, lightly urban, suburban, or rural (add other descriptors/categories if you wish). Thanks. |
