Modify full coverage fender for bus rack - solution

Folks, I just bought a Kona Dew plus and full coverage plastic fenders. I have seen the front-most portion of the front wheel fenders get crushed by various bike racks:

While that might be fine for metal fenders, perhaps not the best idea for plastic ones. So I decided to modify my fenders to provide more clearance so that the bus-rack clamp fits under the front-most portion of the fender:

All that is needed is a Dremmel tool or hacksaw to cut the fender, a drill, pop rivets and rivet gun, or nuts and bolts, and an angle bracket. Costs all of $2.00 and 10 minutes to modify. The outcome is similar to the off-road detachable flattened fenders, but provides full coverage.

Happy commuting.

When I saw the second picture I though it would turn out like crap, but doesn't look half bad!

Good job!

Nice solution.
I've never put the bar over the fender. And the bike has always remained secure, even at 80-90 km/h

I've never had a problem with my Freddie Fenders. The bar slides under my fender without modification.

I like that bike. They sell them at my LBS and look at that one and the Rove every time I'm there. Nice job on the d ender also.

Yeah... I've had both my fendered bikes on the bus rack. Planet Bike and SKS full covereage fenders. The racks can adequately secure the bike at an angle, so you don't have to modify anything.

I noticed that the OP mounted his fenders very close to the tire, hence his problem. I attached it so it was close to the fork.

The past 3 years when I've needed to bring my bike on the bus I've placed the clamp directly on top of my front fender. It's polycarbonate plastic and today it still looks pretty much new on the outside (after it's been cleaned of course!)
