Bicycle Times Magazine

Anyone subscribe to Bicycle Times Magazine?
I like it much better than Bicycling Magazine especially for commuting information, bicycle tests etc.

KittiPaws 05-26-13 12:53 PM

I don't have a subscription (yet - I plan to order one), but I picked up a copy for the first time a little over a month ago. I, too, like it a lot better than Bicycling Magazine. Bicycle Times seems to speak more to the Joe Everyday or Jo Everyday cyclist, as opposed to racers.

I have subscribed on and off to a Toronto-centric mag called Dandyhorse. They only put out two issues or so per year.

Very much so...it seems more about the "Bicycle Lifestyle".

Not to be snarky but it wouldn't be hard to put out a better mag than Bicycling which basically just provides a bit of filler for the ads.

Shop gets a few every issue. I'm twice the age of the target reader of those publications .

terrapin44 05-26-13 03:02 PM

I haven't subscribed yet, but I have bought the last 4 or 5 issues from my local book store. I guess I should subscribe. I like it better than any other bicycling magazine I have seen.

Your twice the age of many of us on this forum! :)

...but very very knowledgable!

I have gotten a fair amount of enjoyment out of bicycling magazine over the years, but I have never subscribed. I do agree some issues might as well be full of adds there isn't much I ma interested in. I don't race either so yeah. When I am at the library I pick it up and see if they have anything interesting in it. Sometimes they really do have some good stuff in there.

Bicycle Times looks interesting from the website, but I have a hard time subscribing to magazines anymore. I hardly ever even look at them and my wife gets annoyed with them piling up. I generally feel good about taking them to work so they get use out of them one way or another. It looks like its free via amazon kindle. Maybe i would read it if I can get it on my blackberry playbook.

I have the "physical" subscription. Just something I enjoy about thumbing through the magazine...but they do have many "digital subscription" options too!

rawhite1969 05-26-13 06:15 PM

Is my fav, along with Momentum. Those two really cover riding and enjoying the ride, vs looking at equipment at ridiculous price points. My 220lb frame will never benefit from a $12k carbon ride, or even a $5k bike. But i find benefit in what those two mags cover immensely more than Bicycling.

dvald001 05-26-13 06:22 PM

I love that magazine. For those of you with tablets, you can find most of the early issues for just .99 cents using Zinio or a similar app. I honestly read it for the bicycle porn and the reviews.

blakcloud 05-26-13 07:58 PM

I bought every issue since day one, but once they went digital, I went that route. It is a great magazine, certainly targeting a different audience than Bicycling.

There is a cycling magazine that I like much better and that is Momentum. They also have a digital subscription service which I have. The reason I like Momentum is that there is a really community feel to the magazine. Check it out, you may end up liking it.

I do subscribe to bicycle time and it is a good bike mag.
It is a good mag for people that commute.

I get Bicycle Times. I've never read the other one you guys mentioned. I get Adventure Cycling, too.

DerekMcC 05-28-13 10:52 AM

Got the print edition for a year. Now I get the digital. It has pretty good stuff for those interested in the cycling lifestyle.

RidingMatthew 05-28-13 11:02 AM

I have read for free with credits on www.theclymb.com when a friend bought something there after signing up using my link.

I read it cover to cover everytime. I enjoy it much more than Bicycling magazine. Bicycling seemed like a bunch of ads and the same articles over and over again.. i looked through old covers and they were basically the same loose 5-10lbs biking. Bicycling Times actually makes me want to ride my bike more!

PLUS a photo of mine is published in issue #23 of Bicyling Times pg 67

jdswitters 05-28-13 11:05 AM

Bicycle times and adventure cycling also, I don't race.

erg79 05-28-13 11:11 AM

The recommendation for Momentum magazine seconded.

Simpletommy 05-28-13 05:54 PM

I subscribe to Bicycle Times and it's sister publication Dirtrag. Both are well done magazines that are for the actual mortal...kind of like GrassRoots Motorsports is for the gear head with a modest budget...but with bikes...
