Bike shop - tire change / upgrade?
Hi,
I've been commuting for a few months now and i'm enjoying it.
I ran into my first flat tire, and I brought it to a bike shop since I didn't know how to change the tube.
I was running a Maxxis Detonator 700x28 and they determined if was compromised and replaced it with a gatorskin 700x23
My rim is a Sun Assault SL-1 28/32H.
I ride a Brodie Tesla hybrid https://brodiebikes.com/2009/archive/...=tesla&year=06
Does the change of tire size matter ? I'm told 23c is more efficient, so is this a worth while upgrade?

It will be a touch more efficient; but way less comfortable....................
If you have another 28, put it on the rear, and the 23 on the front.

No idea why anyone would consider a 23c tire an 'upgrade' on a commuter but YMMD.
Gatorskins are available in different sizes. The same size as the original Maxxis Detonators might give you a bit more flat protection, but typically, higher pressure tires flat more easily and narrower tires need to run higher pressures. Traded in my 23's for 25's on the road bikes a long time ago.

23 front, 28 rear, you might like that combo. I run that combo on one bike.

I don't know about the 23c issues you might face, but I rode a hybrid with them for about 6 months without any issues, and I'm a big boy (was 250 at the time).
My Vaya has a set of 40cs on it and I can say that it doesn't ride better because of them, it just means I'm pushing a lot more tire than needed for the job. I'm going back down to a set of 28c on Monday and keeping the 40c for gravel grinding only.
I think a 28 is probably the magic number most people will agree on because its a compromise of low rolling resistance with a lower pressure tire. A 23 is going to feel fast, but sketchy for someone my size (I'm currently at 215 again). When I was heavier, I was more careful about how aggressive I road.

Continental has some very nice riding 700 X 23's. The Ultra Sport is one.

go to youtube or whatever and learn to patch a flat. save yourself some $$. I ride on Armadillos, they don't flat often.

I'd want the wide tire on the front.
No idea why they would put a skinny road tire on that bike. I can't believe they didn't have a 28 or 32mm tire in stock.
