It sounds excessive compared to other replies, but the Minnesota snow, sand and salt really gum stuff up. By Thursday and Friday nothing felt like it worked crisply. Now that the weather's good I don't usually do much besides oil, but I still take things apart and clean them every once in a while. And I try to wash everything with dish soap every couple weeks.
I live in Minnesota to - it helps (a lot) to have fenders on the bike for winter riding. My winter bike is an internal hub (in addition to fenders) which I got to avoid some of these issues.

I would say if you're riding the same bike for summer and winter commuting in Minnesota, you **definitely** should fully clean it in the spring after there's no more snow and road grit.

I have separate winter and summer bikes, so I'm personally pretty much in the same camp as many of the other posters - I never wash the bike, sometimes add oil to the chain, at absolute most it's once a year.

once it gets dirty. I only cleaned my road bike once and that was because I had to ride in some unexpected rain.

I try to degrit my rims whenever I can. Alu rims...they get gritty.

I never do a real through cleaning, but I do wipe it down from time to time or will squirt it with a hose and then dry ot down if it gets covered with mud or something.

I wipe Lola down when she get dirty. Other than that, since I have only had her for a year, I have never washed her.

with an IGH and disc brakes I think I replaced the chain and cleaned the gunk off the chainrings and pulleys .

It uses a tensioner , and Ive occasionally taken the glazing off the friction material in the pads.

I should wipe it all down, someday..
