What's a cold or a flu ??...haven't had one for a very long time. I think cycling all year round has strengthened my immune system.

I stay home and keep my plague to myself.

Hey that's a great way of looking at it. And come to think of it, I can't remember my last cold or fever! And I'm 52 years old.

CJ, for the past couple of years anyway I just ride in if I'm well enough to be at work. I didn't come to it deliberately. My habit is out the door quickly, 20 minutes from waking up and I'll be halfway there before I realize that maybe I should have stayed home. But, sometimes the ride seems to actually help.

I agree with you about the bus. Even if I didn't mind it at the best of times, there's no telling what you might catch there when your immune system is already hammered.

:thumb: Correct answer.

I think I could claim that until about age 55, then caught the H1N1 virus. That took the edge off my record!

Ride slow.

Well it turned out after I posted the question I was wicked sick and laid up at home for two days and still have a residual cold lingering on to this day. So I shall now go by the philosophy that if I am too sick to ride then I am too sick to work.

BTW I have been driving this week as the cold/sick has me still darn weak and wobbly

Depends on the severity of the illness.
For most, ride anyway. Or go for a nice, long run.
The cardio helps clear the crap out of my pipes and gets the metabolic furnaces fired up.
Drink lots of water. And Emergen-C or vitamins a,c,e, b complex supplements.

I didn't realize it until reading this but apart from my seasonal allergies, since I've begun bike commuting, I've never been sick. Although when I was sick before commuting, I did find that if I was well enough to be mobile, a short bike ride made me feel a lot better. I think it just has to do with getting the juices flowing and breathing in fresh air, it's gotta be better for you than just sitting around in the stuffy indoors.

I felt lousy yesterday but rode anyway. I was not sure if it's bad allergy or somthing else. Well, it was a terrible 30 miles ride back from work as breathing was really difficult. It felt like I was sucking air through a straw. Got, took a shower and bascially crashed in bed. Woke up and still feel lousy this morning even though breathing is a bit better, I took the bus to work. The lung feels like it's full of phlegm. Now that I think about it, that sounds like hay fever.
