Lost Kitten

Just as I'm about to turn into the driveway, I hear this pitiful meow coming from the storm drain. I did a quick u-turn and pulled over to where the suspected noise was coming from. Sure enough, a cute little kitten had fallen into the storm drain and was meowing its heart out. I contacted my wife who in turn contacted the Fire Department. While we were waiting, my wife went over to the local burger joint and got us dinner. As we sat there waiting, I fed the hungry little kitten a good quarter or more of my burger. The cat happily ate it and meowed even louder. When they eventually showed up, the Fire Company tried and tried to get the grate off and couldn't. They reasoned since they were unable to get to the cat, that it would eventually find its way out which was only a couple hundred feet away. None of use were small enough to go in and get it, but I sure wished we could have rescued this kitty.

Did anyone find anything strange or unusual on their commute?

That's a sad story. Can you tell us how it ended?

Some cities around here have started putting critter guards on the storm drains, mostly to control raccoons and skunks who use them for shelter. Would have helped that kitten too. Good thing my wife didn't see it, otherwise that would have been +4

Last fall I found a cat living in a culvert down the street from my workplace. She was a nice cat and someone must have dumped her off there. It is on a frontage road of the business loop through town. Long story short I ended up bringing her into my work place as an office cat, which is pretty awesome (my manager rocks). I have bike parking and a cat tree in my office.

I think he did. They couldn't get it out. It might find its own way out

Well, I did find her while on bike 5 years ago:

She came home in a pannier...well under a pound. Now she's 14!

I wonder if leaving some food at the way out would help. Any meowing today?

Well today, some kind hearted woman helped with the lost kitty. She got some strong guys to lift off the grate and almost got the cat.(The cat ran when the grate came off.) They then put out some food and water (along with a trap) to get the cat. She is now checking on the cat almost every hour. With a little luck, the cat should be free soon and get into a good home.
