Seeking advice on a few frames - building up a commuter / all weather road bike
I have a much better idea of what I want - a nice, sharp looking road bike with fender mounts. I don't want it to look precious. Previously I was thinking of adding a rack (used very occasionally) but I've decided that its something i can figure out as long as there are fender mounts.
I'll but using the bike for my too short commute (4 miles) and longer social rides and perhaps some wet weather training while my CAAD 10 stays dry. I hope to build it up with SRAM Force (at very least Apex) and Mavic Open Pros with Ultegra hubs. I don't think I'll spend too much ore time picking out the bike - although visualizing it with the fenders is a bit of a challenge. opinions welcome. --- I could get a custom frame make by Milwaukee Bike Co. (apparently mfg by waterford) - I get to select the color and an array of other options. Its quite a deal for a custom made frame. (although not custom measured to my fit, which is usually what custom means) http://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...ducts_id=14041 http://www.benscycle.net/images/Oran...20RT%20web.jpg --- Mr. Pink by All-City Once again I wish i could get the previous year's model - it black. Its prettier in red but not yet precious. It has hidden fender mounts. http://allcitycycles.com/bikes/mr_pink http://allcitycycles.com/images/bikes/mr_pink5.jpg --- The Soma Stanyan is still on the list. This would require a custom powder coat pain job. http://www.somafab.com/archives/prod...anyan-frameset http://pedalrevolutionblog.files.wor.../stanyan11.jpg --- Finally, fenders - I'm not sure if the hammered aluminum fenders I have will look right on each of the bikes above. I think it might be too much bling. http://store.velo-orange.com/index.p...nder-sets.html http://www.homespunbikes.com/wp-cont.../11/falcon.jpg well shoot, here's a shot of the Stanyan with black fenders - http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2710/...fcc1269c24.jpg |
If you're looking at riding in bad weather,I would pick a road or cross bike with discs. Specialized has a proper disc road bike if you want ready-made. Salsa and others have framesets.
