sectuer sport disc for commuting 16mi one way

i am selling my steel road bike and looking for a new commuter. really looking hard at this bike https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bik...ortdisccompact. i would get a new set of wheels and i have a few 105 level derailers to put on the bike. would like to get disc brakes again. let know of any other disc brake bikes to look at. disc trucker, salsa vaya, trek cross rip etc. in the past i have had a trek portland and specialized crux disc. i can get trek and specialized through pro deal/employee purchase

the secteursport has bb5s, which are, IMO, are very poor quality. inexpensive auto-adjusting duel piston mechanicals and cable-hydraulic hybrids are being released by trp. since i hate mechanicals i would wait until trp and shimano release their new road disc brakes before buying. you should be able to get the lbs to swap brakes at or near cost to make the sale.

Curious as to why? They're not as easy to set up and adjust as the BB7's,but they work just fine. And they're made well.

reptilezs: Are you specifically looking for road geometry,or would cross do? Everyone nowadays has a cross disc model. Would allow you to run wider tires to boot.

FWIW, I have the regular Secteur as my commuter, and I love it. The geometry is perfect for my 21mi one way commute. It feels zippy enough to get me there quickly, but also stable enough to handle full panniers. The disc version would, in my opinion, make a great longer distance commuter.

i am not a fan of bb7s either but the bb5s have inferior stopping power, modulation, and as you mentioned, adjustability. since auto-adjusting dual piston mechanicals and cabled hydraulic calipers are now available i think the era of single action mechanical disc brakes is close to over.

i have used cross bikes on the road and do not like the way they handle. i did have a crux disc last year but sold it. the crux disc was specizlied's cross bike with disc brakes. i looked at the trek cross rip but it has a long wheel base. more like a touring bike, similar to a tricross. i used to have a kona jake as well

Not at the low end. They're still making 6spd bikes with freewheels.

Is the rear disc location compatible with rack and fenders?
