Road Bike to Commuter
So I want to change out my road bike to a commuter.
My commute is only 2 miles, but I want a more relaxed riding position. Would it be possible to change out the handle bar stem to get one that rises up higher? Is there anything else I should keep in mind? |
Could you describe your bicycle or post a picture?
The general answer is that, yes, it is possible. Outside of that there are too many variables to consider without knowing more about what problem you're trying to solve and what bicycle you're starting with. |
Yes, you can get a stem that has a higher angle.
You may want to add fenders. I have a roadbike that I use for commuting in all kinds of weather. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0slPlNDxBi0 |

Switching out the stem is a good way to make this more comfortable.
Fenders will make it easier in the rain. Racks would be my prefer method of taking luggage, but Given it's a Cannondale R1000, you might have a slightly tougher time with racks. |
Note that if you raise the bars, you may need longer cables or at least longer housing.
