rain gear
What are you guys wearing for a rain jacket and rain pants? I know there are many brands out there, which brands are you wearings and how do they fold up(storage when commuting)?
|
It won't look as nice as some gear but i went to the local military surplus store and got a jacket pant combo for $25
i keep the jacked folded up in my backpack that i ride with and its not to heavy though i am sure there is better options out there but i probably not at the same price for what you get. |
Showers Pass is sold around here ..
Since I have mudguards on my bike , I just pull a Cycle-raincape over my head and put a Rain Cap on. a helmet cover on your helmet is another option.. cape covers arms and hands and they shelter my legs so rain pants are not deeded. I use a front pannier pair , stuff the cape in it when not raining.. |
Frogg Toggs 2-piece set; they keep the rain off me, breathe kinda okay, $50 for the set, and they reduce to the size of a couple loaves of French bread for storage.
I've looked at the Showers Pass stuff, and can't comment on the quality, because I can't afford it. Had some cheap Walmart stuff several years ago that was decent, lasted more than two years for $30 and NEVER leaked through. (I've bulked up a bit since then....) |
I wear an old Burley rain jacket, collar zipped up tightly. Showers Pass is also often recommended. Rain pants, booties over your shoes. Cap under the helmet. Gloves. With that gear on, I can stand under a shower and stay dry, for a while anyway.
|
When it's raining I wear Northwest territories "tiva" style sandals and surf shorts. T-shirt optional. Since its always above 65° in Hawaii when I'm out commuting. By the way, as I think of it that's the same outfit I wear when it's hot and sunny 88°.

funny .. Hawaii, Northwest Territories, ... Yellowknife in the NWT have a Hawaii brand?
|
I'm originally from Seattle so I'm trying to keep a little reality in my life style. :roflmao2: Hawaiian style or brand would be barefoot which hurts on pedals...
|
Showers Pass below 60F. Above that, I'll take clean rainwater over sweat.
|
Showers pass when cool. J&G rain poncho and brooks leg covers in warmer temperatures when wearing work of going out clothes.
Bicycle specific ponchos are particularly nice for dealing with the heat. |
I am all about the J&G waterproof, breathable rain jacket; paired with RainMates chaps. ~$160 total, less than the Showers Pass Elite rain jacket.
I really like the design of the J&G jacket. Specifically, there are no exposed seams for the rain to leak through. I also use my raingear as winter shell garments. |
what is this showerpass everyone keeps talking about?
|

I don't think i could ever justify a close to $300 dollar rain jacket myself unless i was going on some epic cross country trip.
Like i said the military surplus combo is only $25.... haha |
I wear an EMS packable jacket and some full-zip pants I can't recall the name of. The pants are meh, or I'd get off the couch to look. I've had to seam-seal them twice.
