Who plays cricket?

Or knows how to play it. There's been 4 guys getting ready to play it on the bike path a couple of times in the past month, and they prefer playing right on the path instead of in the huge grassy fields next to it. I remember it being played on grass, but really don't know much about the game aside from it being one of the few new things to appear on the bike path that should be somewhere else. What's the appeal to playing it on asphalt?

A bunch of my neighbors play it every weekend. They always play on the grass, and given the size of the field I don't see how they could do otherwise.

The bike path is about 4 feet wide where these guys were setting up, I wonder how they're able to play there?

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that’s in the side that’s in goes out, and when he’s out he comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out.
When they are all out, the side that’s out comes in and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.
There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.
When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

Also, there is a break for tea and sandwiches.

No wonder people who understand cricket find baseball hard to understand! They were playing when I rode through there on Sunday, but I didn't seen enough of what they were doing to understand it. They were very polite though, much more so than the average dog walker.

Who's on first?

And what about wickets? You didn't say anything about wickets.

And why do pitchers all have red crotches?
