True. But there are a lot of cycling behaviors that annoy motorists a lot more than running reds and I don't do these behaviors. What I hear from motorists is that cyclists hog vehicle lanes because they don't want to ride in the door zone, they ride two abreast in vehicles lanes... because they can, they don't wear hi-viz clothing, they don't have lights on their bikes, they don't signal... ...a motorist is irritated at the moment he sees a cyclist sailing through a red that would get him a ticket if he tried the same move. The anger is forgotten as soon as he gets to drop his own hammer, catch the cyclist in a few hundred yards and forget him like you forget a bad pistachio nut in a whole bag full of good ones. Being forced to trail a lane hogging cyclist for blocks? The hate is going to build and last awhile. Collide with a cyclist that you couldn't see, ouch, that's going to hit your insurance, hard. You may never forgive cyclists for that, ever. Hmmmm... yeah, I'm rationalizing... same as you, because I know you do some of those other behaviors that irritate drivers even if you don't run reds. None of us is perfect. None of us gets to play holier than thou. And, you would be wrong, there isn't anywhere where scofflaw cyclists are hurt more than the law abiding kind. The most vulnerable cyclist out there is the law abiding one. Same for peds. Don't even try to think or convince anyone otherwise.

Not where I live.
DWI, texting, distracted drivers, auto traffic cutting through neighborhoods and bike routes during rush hour to avoid clogged arterial traffic routes such as I35 and major surface streets, etc.......surely have to be the main dealio.
