spd's on flats
 

I've put this in the commute as that's my daily ride but this is also to do with weekend road/moutain biking too.

I'm trying to find a shoe that'll keep me comfy & warm through the winter but is waterproof enough (with a good seal at the top) to keep my feet dry all year round - specifically on the commute as putting wet shoes on for the ride home is a little depressing.

The best I've found so far are the:
- Lake MXZ303
- Lake MX145

The proble I'm having is that they're spd's & I use spiked flats (DMR Vaults MTB / Nukeproof Electron Road) due to an old foot injury which requires me to shift its position regularly.

I currently wear Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Shoe which are great.....in the warm/dry.

Or any shoe, with cycling booties.

I won't be running cleats - I'm actually pondering hiking boots lol so I can understand the Motorbike boots - will the boots grip without the cleat.......it's that dirty great gap!

I've pondered overshoes but I'd end up shredding em on the flats...

Walking boots could be good but for water running down the leg into the big hole where your foot goes - that's why I liked the Lake shoes I mentioned at the top of the thread.

I've also just tripped over some motorbike boots (inspired by your goodself) - TCX X-Cube Waterproof Boots - what do you reckon?

Wool socks.

Yup. I don't bother with waterproof shoes. Wool socks work great for me because they allow my feet to cool when they get hot or sweaty. Sometimes I even ride with SPD sandals in the winter.

When it gets very cold, I can ride with my SPD sandals and my neoprene socks. Those socks are very warm, but they do not breathe. My feet end up being very wet from sweat, but that's a price worth paying when it's very cold outside.

If you're shopping for shoes for winter, buy them a size large. It will leave room for two pairs of socks or a pair of thick socks.

The Northwave Gran Canyon GTX. Been riding with these in the wet Seattle rain for the past two years. They are waterproof, extremely comfortable on and off the bike. They breath well and foot temperature can be regulated by thinner or thicker socks depending on weather. I have worn these in temps from 20 deg with wool socks to 90 deg with thin cycling socks with no issues.
