Need Help Finding an Extra Set of Wheels
I'm planning to commute this winter and am looking to get a spare set of rims to mount my Winter Snow Tires on. The other rims will have slicks that I will use on my trainer. I'd like to avoid having to clean the rims and change tires every night I want to use the trainer.
I'm looking for a cheap set of wheels that are disc brake compatible as they will be used on road and trails in snowy Minneapolis, Minnesota. I'm new to bike parts and their endless amounts of numbers which is why my google searching has lead me astray. I am riding a Marin Lombard Cyclocross bike and my current rims are Alex TA-20, 32-hole. Any info or push in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Just not sure what to look for to make sure I get the right size/width/diameter etc. for my bike. Thanks! |
The thing to do is to decide if you want to get a nice set of wheels and use your current wheels for winter riding or get a set of beaters and keep the ones you have as your "good" set.
If you want nice wheels, I think the Handspun SRAM X.9/Velocity A23 wheels are great. If you want cheap wheels, maybe try posting a message to your local craigslist (or better if you have one, your local bike racing e-mail list) asking what anybody has. I've got a pair of nearly new Alex Black Dragon wheels hanging in my garage that I took off of my 2013 Kona Jake and will probably never use again. If someone came asking, I'd probably sell them for a reasonable price. |
I don't know personally, but I have seen many positive recommendations on BF of these from Nashbar; very cheap, and apparently very sturdy. And very ugly, to some, but apparently you can scrape the decals off.
