Bike share bikes
I've spent some time online trying to find who manufactures bikeshare bikes. They seem bulletproof, looking at them on racks. They are undoubtly pretty heavy, not an issue where I live. I would appreciate any info anyone might have. I'd buy one if they weren't lol expensive.

This is the company that make my city's bike share bikes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bixi_(company)
I believe the bikes use proprietary components to discourage theft, so they are probably not a good choice (and probably not even available) for individual purchase. |
Thanks for the link. It led me to http://www.devinci.com/home.html. Even if one could be obtained, probably $$$ as I suspected. Not to mention they're probably working OT to supply the bikeshare market. Trek, Specialized would have similar bikes to their consumer line. Sigh- maybe another day.

They are good for their intended purpose but not so great if you ever want to ride more than a few miles. Only the seat adjusts and some of the parts are proprietary. The built in lights are only meant for being seen.

The B-Cycle (now in 18 N.A. cities) rental* bikes are built by Trek. They don't catalog a corresponding consumer model.
Generally similar consumer bikes? Hmmm. Breezer Uptown? *They don't actually share the bikes with you, you know. |
Dutch Gazelle used to make a proprietary component bike for public share schemes ,
they still, as I heard, got stripped , and stolen . ..er Privatized .. |

yuck, I can't stand bike share bikes. I keep a beater bike down in DC just so I don't have to use the bikeshare bikes. If I see another guy in a suit wobbling his way down the bike lane, I might puke.
I will probably see this in a few hours on my way home :( |
