Looks like fun, doesn't it?
Lucas Brunelle should film his next feature in India.

Crazy guy! I've walked plenty in Bangalore, but never felt like cycling - it really is far too dangerous, especially at rush hour. On the other hand, when I go back - I'm taking my bike with me

Reminds me a little of Tijuana, except the cars in TJ average a little bigger, fewer skooters and there are no of those little three wheeled cabs. The road conditions are eerily similar.

It looks a little less crazy than Chennai, the only place i've ever been in India.

After watching that, I feel so privileged to live in an organized country where we have traffic rules to follow. I need to stop complaining about traffic and bad drivers, I think I'm spoiled.

Passing in the oncoming lane, passing a transit bus on the door side when the door is open to let a passenger off, shifting between the left and right side of the lane, road to sidewalk to road: all this would be too much for my brain to process if I had to commute it although it was played back at double (?) speed. I'd like to see it at regular speed.

I took one trip out of Chennai to Mahabaliporim (SP?) and the driver was doing all of the above. It was the most stressful car ride I've ever been on.

@JoeyBike: I will never say a damned thing about your riding again.

Wait, they have driving laws in India? What is there to break?

Do you think the vid was edited faster than reality? I think so. Slowing it down makes it look a lot less suicidal.

It's like this in most of the far-east countries.
My memories of visiting Vietnam were the utter chaos on the streets by the thousands of mopeds, and how long it took me to figure out on which side of the road the traffic was supposed to be flowing! I ended up looking both ways which crossing the streets there which probably saved my a$$ on a number of occasions!

There's a guy at work I sent this to, he's been to India for business a few times. He says his hotel looks out over one of the biggest intersections in Bangalore. He says usually it's just uncontrolled chaos and it works very well, but the most recent time he was there, they had installed stoplights and had cops to enforce the lights. It was a disaster, traffic was backed up for blocks in every direction. When people just do whatever with no rules, it worked better.

In New Orleans, anytime a traffic signal dies the traffic flows better through that intersection, but not due to chaos...everyone just takes their turn (more or less). There have been plenty of studies on this topic and nearly all of them shine a bad light on too many traffic lights.
