FILA 'bonded' jacket for light rain?
Today woot.com has FILA 'bonded' jackets for what seems a pretty good price.
They say they have "Water and wind repellant bonded fabric". Here in San Diego, I get not many wet commuting days, and most of them are light 'spitting' rather than a true downpour, so I'm wondering whether this would work well? Anybody know about these jackets, what is 'bonded' (is water repellant based on the weave, or a chemical that will wear off?), would they fit badly on drop bars? CAVEAT: I fully understand this jacket is not waterPROOF; I am not looking for a true waterproof jacket, I am interested in this because it is cheap and it might boost my San diego stay-dry commuting percentage from 97% to 99%. |
"Bonded" usually means a nylon windbreaker outer layer that is glued to a fleece inner layer. I have no experience with this jacket, but most general purpose jackets fit poorly when biking on drop bars.

How cold does it get there? Cause that looks like it wouldn't be too breathable. I could see that jacket in the low 30's,but anything warmer and I think you'd just sweat in it.

YMMV,but I think that's gonna be too warm for you.
If you just need to hold off light rain, there's a bunch of packable jackets made by all the cycle gear companies. Prolly get one cheap from REI,Performance,Nashbar, etc this Black Friday. |
