The Drive Side is Within
It's going to be a downpour and 50MPH winds. Not planning on it.

Rain's ending in the morning, but we might get a trace of snow around lunch. I hope not. In DC,a trace of snow equals about 1/2" accumulation of salt.

I've got the day off, but we've planned a ride for groceries tomorrow. If it snows, no way we're missing out on that.

East Coast - who's riding despite the expected apocalypse tomorrow?
One of my personal incentives to ride to work in really bad weather is to confront that perennial question, “You didn’t ride your bike today, did you?.” So I have a reputation to maintain.
I did ride my 14 mile one-way commute this past Monday at 19°, as well as this morning at about 35°. The rain is anticipated to begin tonight through to tomorrow. I have my beautiful S-Works carbon fiber bike and I don’t want to ride it in the rain home. I have a lot of work to do here, at my convenience, so I’ll stay at work overnight.
Recently I posted about riding my beater bike in the drenching rain we had on last Monday:

Recently I posted about riding my beater bike in the drenching rain we had on last Monday:
As I was commuting this dark, torrential rain-swept, and leaf-strewn ride this morning, I recalled this rule:
The last time I rode in such a drenching rain, about two years ago, I got so wet that I developed a presumed blister and subsequent abscess, “down there,” and was off the bike for two weeks. So if you ride in bad weather you may be a badass in more ways than one.
We are the Commutinati and these are the Rules.
Rule #1- Velominati
If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot; are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.

I'd rather ride in it then fly in it. Normally I do it no sweat. Grab a hoodie, throw a medium jacket on top of it and put some heavy gloves and you're good to go! Also put you smartphone in ziplock bag in a dry pocket in your bag. But alas I'm flying. There is 100% chance of rain and showers leading up to take off. Oh god, this is gonna royally suck!

No, too dangerous with all the traffic trying to get through and having to move aside for the plows is a pain. Taking the day off and driving.

Rode home tonight in the rain and 40f , forcast for tomorrow a.m. is 55 with a nice tailwind.
Temp dropping to the 40's with a wind shift to the nw, so a tailwind for the ride home. So
whats a little rain? Actually got a little bummed when I thought about driving. Heading up to
beantown early turkeyday to see my brother and the kids , also picking up a set of studded
tires from him. Its time.

Me too. I haven't missed a workday bike commuting since July 2006. 1,589 consecutive workdays and counting.
When The Hyperbole Channel breathlessly declares an apocalypse, it usually means we'll get a quarter to a half for their projected snowfall amounts. They're calling for 8-12 inches here, I expect 2-4 tops. No biggie.

Jim, you sound like Thoreau
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms.”
Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods

Jim from Boston, where were you riding that it was 19? That would have been balmy here. It was between 3-6 when I left my house on Monday morning. -3 in Worcester at that time.

I drove yesterday and today. My husband was happy about that ( weather ) but my motivation to drive was to rest my legs for a nine mile running race on thanksgiving day.
As of today, I have driven to work 4 times this year. My office moved to a different location a few months ago and I wasn't even sure where the employee parking was located until yesterday.

I note you post from North Attleboro. During the nice weather, my usual southernmost riding is occasionally down to Wrentham, Franklin, Foxborough, and Mansfield. Once a year there is a Century Ride through Taunton, Berkely, Lakeville, and Freetown.

The snow forecast kept me off the bike today. I just don't have the right equipment.

Thanks for the comment rumrunn, but I have a carbonfiber bike and post to Bike Forums; seems pretty anti-Thoreauvian to me.
Seriously though, I do want to "live deep and suck out all the marrow of life," but I don't necessarily agree to "live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms.” In fact, I subscribe to a lifestyle known as the "Power of Full Engagement," derived from the title of the so-named book.

Thanks, but really, with a commute like yours, I wouldn't be close. It's mainly due to my fairly short direct route (4.5 miles, which I use only in foul wather) and that here in R-town, they know what to about snow.

Anyone get snow in the apocalypse? Any snowmaggedon stories to tell?
