Hit the Jackpot! new commuter bike

Hello everybody! I'm not sure if it's cool to start a whole new thread for my new commuter bike, but I'm to stoked to stop myself.
Just scored this 2007 specialized globe hybrid and accessories off of Craigslist for $50.00! I can't believe the guy the sold me all this at that price, $50 was his asking price. This bike has mostly shimano Alivio and Acera components so it's not high end but it has a nice aluminum frame good 700c double wall wheels, and nice tires. The adjustable stem makes it possible to set it up with a pretty sporty geometry. Even comes with the owners manual!I think the accessories alone are about worth the fifty dollars, nice specialized brand mini pump and multi-tool, and krptonite lock. Oh ya, also a nice water bottle not included in the picture. The only thing the bike needs is a minor tune up, which I will complete shortly.

Actually, this is one of those we have to carefully explain to foreigners learning English.

That bike is a steal, but it's not a stolen bike.

One of my French cousins who teaches High School English is Paris had to ask me the difference.

Nor is the bicycle made of steel... it's aluminum.

Nice bicycle. You paid what the seller asked... you didn't take advantage of anyone. You did good.

I hate to ask but could the bike have been stolen? I hate to sound negative but the lock itself is about $35-40 dollars!

My thoughts until I read he got the U-lock and saw the keys with it. Now looks like a seller that had high hopes of losing weight or something. Big ideas with no follow through.

It's definitely a steal, but I doubt it's stolen since it came with some accessories including a pump still in the package, and an unbroken U-lock with keys.

That's MY impression, too. When I ran my bicycle recycling club back in the 90's and early 2000's, these kinds of bikes would pour in through the doors every week. People buy bikes and accessories with high hopes, then put 'em out to pasture after the first huffing and puffing ride around the block.

That is the extra joy of getting a used bike. The thrill of the acquisition. You can't get that thrill in buying a new bike..

From one that has many sweet scores on bikes, big time congrats..

Hey everybody! Thanks for taking an interest in my new bike.

My thoughts until I read he got the U-lock and saw the keys with it. Now looks like a seller that had high hopes of losing weight or something. Big ideas with no follow through.
You hit the nail on head, in fact he told me exactly what you said. He bought the bike wanting to get some exercise to lose some weight, rode it for about a month and never rode it again. Apparently he rode it until the front tire got punctured, it has a slow leak. The guy is getting ready to move to Paris and didn't seem to worried about money. I definitely don't think it was stolen, I think the guy just didn't care enough to try and advertise it well or to be diligent about responding to potential buyers.

The ad for this bike was actually up for about a week but at first he didn't put a price, he just put make a fair offer, he also didn't put a picture, he just copied and pasted a pic. of a similar bike from an advertisement. I noticed the ad but figured he would be considering a fair price to be a couple hundred dollars or more. As soon as he put 50.00 on the ad I responded, thinking it was probably a scam. Sure enough he called me back about twelve hours later and even then he wouldn't let me come look at it until the next day at noon, I figured for sure somebody else was going to snag it, but I guess not.

Don't take this personally but........... I hate you.......... J/K. Great score! Nice bike.
Ha! thanks, I often feel the same way looking at all the bikes other BF members score, like how the heck do they get such good deals, finally I got lucky! I definitely put my time in looking for good deals.

Nice bicycle. You paid what the seller asked... you didn't take advantage of anyone. You did good.
Ya, I would have felt guilty offering him less than his asking price, though I think he may have taken less. I did my best to convey that I really appreciated the deal he was giving me. He seemed pleased that I appreciated it. And I do appreciate it, I can't afford to spend much money on a bike, and thanks to that guy I have a nice newish bike to commute on for awhile. Super cool guy.

Thanks for the heads up, I saw that as well. I Think the recall was for the 2008-09 models, mine is an 07. But I will stop into a specialized dealer one of these days and inquire.
