Burley like rain pants?
 

I've owned several rain pants but the best designed I've ever found were Burley rain pants. I found a pair of new old stock a few years ago, but alas, they look like they may only last the end of this season.

The thing about the Burley rain paints is that the zipper is 12" long - AND it's on the back of the leg. There is a velcro strap with reflective stripe on it which holds them very tight at the ankle.

Like I said, I've had several rain pants, but none with this design. I don't much care about breathability because I usually only wear them in the winter anyway. Anybody know of pants designed like the Burley's with a 12" zipper on the rear of the leg and velcro staps?

I loved my Burley rain pants, but they lost their waterproofness after 3 years. I found a reasonable replacement in Castelli rain pants. The zipper is on the side and there is no velcro ankle strap - but the lower leg is cut tight enough that the pants are as slim as the Burleys were. $90, when you can find them.

The Burly CoOp owned company is gone , the new private company no longer makes raingear.

My last one in the rack Burly rainpants delaminated . fabric supplier fault , not the sewing crew's .


Of course you could always Hire someone to use your old pants as a pattern and get a custom sewn replica.

I'm still using my Burley rain jacket, love that garment. The great thing about it is, the fabric is totally impermeable, not "breathable". The jacket takes care of venting with large zippered vents, not with fussy membrane laminate material.

I've narrowed it down to the J&G Breathable Rain Pants or the O2 Rainwear "Primary Pants". I love my J&G Breathable Rainjacket. I'd go so far as to say it's very much like the Burly rain jacket. Long Pit zips and lots of ventilation. I actually use it for my winter jacket with a fleece underneath in our mild winters in New Orleans. It's a great deal at $100. The Breathable rain pants that J&G look great, but the zips are on the side and the velcro strap is not as wide as the strap on my old Burley rain pants. I like that they are designed to be worn over my regular pants, too.

The O2 Rainwear Primary Pant looks good too, although they have no velcro cinch strap they do have an elastic cuff at the bottom. Anybody own these? I've looked at the Showers Pass line and nothing looks suitable to me.

My pet peeve is bike rain pants with wide lower legs that are baggy around the ankles.

I've had the J&G breathable pants for over a year now, and they are as you describe - side zip and a small reflective ankle band. However, I don't find this a problem.

The first size they recommended was way too big, and I had to exchange them. The material is somewhat thick being 3 layers (outer, membrane, and inner mesh). I would've liked some more reflective striping. But overall they do the job, aren't overpriced and are made in Oregon.

I pulled the trigger on the J&G Breathable rain pants. I've been extremely happy with everything else I've bought from them so I went with them.

Does anyone use showerpass pants, I have one of there jackets and love it. But didn't know if anyone had experience with their pants.
