Decent ride in at 35f, gonna alternate run/ride this week for training purposes so it should be a long week :)
|
Nice morning, just a touch below freezing, enough for me to keep an eye out for frozen puddles that I could slip on. Took a different route in this morning, moving up from the 8km/5mi RT to the 16km/10mi RT commutes, ultimately working up to the 88km RT commute later on this spring.

Nice ride this morning. -1° celcius with a decent tailwind.
Tonight is election night here in Québec so I'll be off earlier to have time to vote before the polls close at 8pm. I can't wait for this electoral **** to be over. |
The skies opened up this morning with a heavy deluge. The creek by my usual route is already a couple of feet above the flood level and so the path will be impassable for several days.
In anticipation I had fashioned a front fender for my rain bike yesterday out of a 2-inch aluminum carpet strip and zip-ties and, for once, one of my rig-ups worked splendidly the first time without adjustments. I also extended my windshield, which while I'm not thrilled with the aesthetics and extra drag it did keep me relatively dry. I am a little concerned with the forecast thunderstorm this evening though, since I skipped the rear wheel fairing this time, basically because it's extra weight and due to my laziness. But it serves as a stabilizer in high winds and so I'm likely to miss it on the way home. |
Got my first commute of the year (!!!). I have all kinds of excuses for why it took until April to start commuting again in beautiful Des Moines but well they're just excuses, :).

I haven't commuted for 2 summers because my wife's been pregnant both of the last 2 summers, and she was not excited to have me a 45 minute ride away in case of an emergency. So I'm very out of shape and now probably an hour and 15 minutes away from home, without moving home or work. :) But my bike is tuned, freshly fendered and I have no more excuses not to, since the 12" of snow we got Friday is almost completely melted. |

You're doing better than me, I hope to get my first commute of the year in later this week. My list of excuses is long and basically is an attempt to justify my laziness.

45F this morning and supposed to be raining - managed to miss all but a few sprinkles. Doesn't look like I'll be that lucky going home

Third commute of the year, 1st w/o snow and ice on the road. 32 F and calm winds, beautiful ride!

Baby steps get on the bike... baby steps get on the bike... This is my first post and my first commute in over six months. I've been riding a couch since Sept 13'. Today was 48f, mild with the sun coming up. avg speed 14.04 / 10.16 miles. Not gonna lie, I think the trip home is gonna hurt a bit. :-/

Today was absolutely gorgeous.

Well I ended up not feeling like riding Thursday morning - staying up too late combined with big headwinds. So I took the bike to work on the car, on the chance that the storms might miss us or come in later, which they did. Had a nice ride home Thursday with a pretty good tailwind. Averaged around 14.5 MPH I think, with the rack and loaded trunk bag.
When I got close to home I rounded a corner in a neighborhood and saw a teenage girl walking along the edge of the road (barefoot I noticed) and she said "be careful" to which I just said "thanks!" as I mashed along in the big ring. Then I was going through the park at just above the 15 MPH speed limit, when a car decided it needed to go even faster and pass me. Then we got to some twisty sections of road that I normally blast through at 20+ MPH, and actually had to slow down for the car which was now in front of me. Coming back to work on Friday morning was pretty good. We had some heavy storms roll through about 4 AM, so I had the fenders ready on the bike. It wasn't raining when I left at 6 AM but it was very wet. My bike is very dirty now, but amazingly the underside of my rack and trunk bag are still spotless. Having fenders really is a blessing! |

54F / 13C Another beautiful dark, spring morning. Birds out in force. I am traking a route that p[asses through the area of Cherry Blossoms here in DC...still at least a couple of days from full bloom. |
I bailed on the ride yesterday. More rain that I felt like dealing with.
Back on today. Wet roads and 55F and a bit of a tailwind for a good portion of the ride in this morning. One road I am on for about 4.5 miles is a 45mph two-lane country-ish road. I saw a dog trotting down in the opposite direction. He had a collar, but definitely seemed to be somewhere he shouldn't be - in the middle of the road, not particularly close to any one house. I hope he does not get hit by a car. |
Another cool morning just above freezing, but overcast, not sunny like yesterday. Forecast is for showers later today, hopefully after I get home but I've probably jinxed it now.
|
First commute since March 26 as I was on vacation last week and we had a lot of cruddy weather the previous week. Very warm with wet roads and stiff headwind all the way to work, so I took it easy. I rode over 300 miles during my week off work, and my legs were pretty tired this morning. We had the first week of really nice weather this year while I was off work, so I picked the right time for vacation. I rode almost every day while I was off and the weather was warm and sunny most of the time. Ironically, the cold and rainy weather returned as soon as I went back to work.
|
First day back on the bike commute...
Back on the bike for 2014 and greeted with a 8mph headwind...temps in the upper 30s...wet pavement leftover from some showers overnight... I was so happy to be back on the bike after the l-o-n-g Wisconsin winter I commented to a couple I often see out walking along my route that I was "glad we all survived the winter", they heartily agreed. :-) Ride ON!
|
Beautiful ride in. 50F and wet roads from the rain last night. Slight tailwind.
My legs are definitely getting stronger now. I'm still not where I was pre-Polar Vortex, but it won't be too much longer. |
Gray rainy morning, 4° celcius with some headwind.
|
Finally back on the fixed gear this week. I was gone the first few days of last week and we had snow Thursday and Friday so I was still using the winter bike. But now the snow and ice are gone except for a few piles.
Yesterday I felt fast for the first time in months. Today there was a headwind but it still beats riding on studded tires. |
37F this morning and still wet from rains yesterday and last night. The ride home yesterday was, in a word, wet. An hour in pouring rain with a headwind - overwhelmed my hi-tech rain gear so by the time I got home I was soaked. Some of it was still wet this morning, yuck!

Wow! What a wonderful morning to ride! 48 deg f with an 8 mph tailwind. I clocked my fastest speed in a mile at 30. But every high has its lows. Coming from a stop light, started hammering on it to get up to speed and BAM! lost a pin on the chain. Slide 10 feet on asphalt, coming up with road rash. Oh what a beautiful morning! Oh what a beautiful day!

50f and mild, rain will be holding off until 10 or so this morning. I rode in with a buddy from work. We haven't ridden together since last year. I noticed that his pace was a bit stronger than mine but I managed to push it out and keep up with him. Once we got to work he says, "What did you eat for breakfast this morning, you were cranking it!" I didn't say a word. Seems we were unintentionally pushing each other...Ha! Oh well, good workout and 10.2 mile ride in. Gonna be a wet trip home, will be my first time using my new showers pass rain gear. :) |
Pumped the tires up to 80 psi, rolled out nice weather! super stoked ride.
