As a Flyers fan, I'm looking forward to an entertaining series with NY.

Lots of crud in the air again today, including some construction grit that got in my eyes, so another slow ride. Not quite as relaxing as yesterday's because the traffic was much worse. Sunny and a nice temperature though. I'm torn between wanting rain to clean out the air and not wanting rain to affect the commute. Need to mount those fenders...

dcb23 04-15-14 04:53 AM

67F / 19 C with a light rain coming down. But change is coming, we are expected to drop 20 degrees F in the next 12 hours...perhaps even a bit of snow later today!

mgw4jc 04-15-14 06:22 AM

Thunderstorms off and on all night, but they broke up around 5:15 this morning. About 62F and a wet road made for some kinda grimy legs and a very grimy bike. My seat post rear rack protects me from the back tire, but I may have to look into a front fender. I'll definitely be doing some cleaning tonight.

Lots of rain yesterday (25mm/1in) and then freezing temps today (-10C/16F); I didn't know what the road conditions would be like and I had put away my winter clothes so I took the transit in today.

Hey, dramiscram, ever thought of motorizing your bike?

Nice one!

Big tail Wind this morning with some rain, 13° celcius. The temp will drop to 2° celcius this afternoon and the rain should turn to snow.

tarwheel 04-15-14 08:29 AM

Forgot to keep my eyes on the radar yesterday afternoon and got caught in some rain showers riding home. If I had left work about 10 minutes earlier, I probably would have avoided the rain. Fortunately, the rain was light and temperatures warm. Drove today because it was thunderstorming when I got up with heavy rain and severe storms forecasted for the entire day. I'm actually thankful for the rain because it will knock down the pollen, at least temporarily. When I was riding home in the rain yesterday, yellow streams of runoff were on the sides of all the roads.

arsprod 04-15-14 08:33 AM

Apparently this spring thing is just a tease, 30F this morning and snow, yes snow. I was riding Saturday in shorts

dcb23 04-16-14 04:45 AM

Egads. Starting with the commute home yesterday: a drop of 30 degrees F, headwind, rain. This morning, 36F / 2C, dry but a strong crosswind from the north. Out came the long pants, hat, thick gloves.

bulevardi 04-16-14 05:07 AM

This morning it was just above freezing point I guess... And I had only thin gloves without fingers.
Couldn't feel the fingers anymore after a mile :D

mgw4jc 04-16-14 06:43 AM

I got a rescue from the wife yesterday afternoon. It was rainy at 4:30, but had stopped by 5, so I wished I had just ridden home. However the temp had dropped and I only had the short sleeve shirt I rode in with, so less suffering anyway.

32F when I left for work. Big change from yesterday morning's 62F. There was a bit of tailwind so I was faster than average coming in. Felt warm enough for most of the ride, but now, inside my heated office I can't seem to shake a chill. I'm tempted to go put my tights back on under my jeans until I warm up.

spivonious 04-16-14 07:00 AM

Took 15 minutes longer than normal (that's 33%) thanks to a stiff 20mph headwind on pretty much the entire 7 miles to work. That plus 28F temperature means my toes are numb. :(

dramiscram 04-16-14 07:28 AM

Got caught in a blizzard last night, I called my wife but by the time she got to me I was 19 kms into the ride. A nice Young lady stopped to ask me if I needed a ride home...

So no bike this morning as the roads are still icy/Snowy. I should be okay tomorrow.

arsprod 04-16-14 08:03 AM

27F this morning, wtf?! My legs are toast from ride home last night, mid 30's and wicked headwind. C'mon spring, you can do it

MEversbergII 04-16-14 08:43 AM

For us, there is no spring...just a wind that smells fresh before the storm.

M.

Chilly weather again this week with morning lows expected to be near freezing for the next few days. It felt fine riding to work this morning, once I reminded myself that it was actually quite a bit warmer than most of my commutes in Jan-Feb. Wearing the right clothes also helps. We are having a bike commuting event at work this afternoon, so I'll be helping with that and hopefully recruit some new commuters.

timvan_78 04-16-14 10:15 AM

5 degC and raining this AM. (It wasnt raining when I left the house but rained the rest of the 50 minute ride.)
Took the backup bike that doesnt have fenders.
Underdressed--no rain pants/shoe covers etc: Forgot gloves, and realized I've gotten used to them--I used to rarely wear gloves.

Oh well, no big deal.

Darth Lefty 04-16-14 12:04 PM

I've parked the bike in favor of spending the nice weather working in the backyard, building a new patio and deck. The time spent on this, and the need for going to the hardware store for large heavy things all the time, has meant driving. I'm not worried about it, I'm happy being outdoors and working on something whether it's this or the ride.

mstraus 04-16-14 12:57 PM

Haven't posted in this thread in a while, partially due to just not posting here but also as I haven't been commuting as frequently as I would like.

Today was my first bike commute in almost 3 weeks, due to both some work travel and recovering from a minor injury (not biking related). It felt great to be back on the bike and I felt pretty strong considering its been a few weeks.

It was a perfect spring day with the sun shining and mild winds this morning. I hope the way home stays nice and not too windy.

enigmaT120 04-16-14 03:03 PM

My first ride in over a week, as I took last week off as vacation and thinned trees in my forest. My legs didn't atrophy that I could tell. Maybe dragging hundred pound plus logs is almost as good as cycling? It was supposed to rain this morning but did not. I'm not complaining. Another nice ride.

GriddleCakes 04-16-14 11:25 PM

Finished out last week with blazing sunshine and afternoon temps in the high 30°s F. MUP was easily 6 inches deep in slush, slow going even with a fat bike, so I decided to get the road bike ready to roll over the weekend. Clear skies for the lunar eclipse, then partly cloudy since, mid 30°s this morning and high 40°s coming home all this week; took the road route all week so far. Monday's ride home was 48°F in full sunshine, straight up t-shirt and jeans weather, no hat or gloves! Partially overcast today, first day of the year with above freezing temps in the morning, no hat or gloves heading home. No skunk stripe either, as my road bike has full fenders.

Got honked at Monday, for having the audacity to use a cross-walk while someone wanted to make a right turn (knew he was there the entire time, and was surprised that he'd honk since I was a full car length ahead of him when I crossed). First honk of the year! And hopefully the last, as the city has already plowed half of the snow off of the MUP (from 6 inches down to 3), and soon I can ride my fully fendered road bike on the MUP. Whatev's to the honker anyway, as I had one motorist back up for me later, another wave me through a 4 way, and a gaggle of kids and their mom walking to school wave/shout at me as I went by; some people might suck, but most people are wonderful.

Plus I can count myself lucky that, despite ski season being now officially over, I was able to snap a pic of this guy last week:

The rare and elusive ski commuter, in it's springtime plumage, no less: shorts, no hat, all awesome.

gbcb 04-17-14 12:55 AM

Two days of rain and the pollution is worse than ever. No rides for me. We'll see about tomorrow.

dcb23 04-17-14 05:16 AM

Interesting notes from everyone in here the past few days. Looks like Winter is giving a number of us some issues.

Warmed up a bit here in DC but still way to cold for Mid April.

dude72 04-17-14 05:24 AM

singlespeed commuting is a lot more fun and a lot faster than my regular bike.
